AS A VITAL FACTOR OF PRODUCTION IT IS PART AND PARCEL OF THE MAGNATES OF CAPITAL'S LIFE BLOOD TO GET SUPER PROFIT FOR THEIR SURVIVAL. SINCE THEY ARE THE ONES IN CUSTODY OF KNOWLEDGE IT IS QUITE IMPRACTICABLE TO RESOLVE THE LAND PROBLEM ON RHETORICS. WE NEED ENLIGHTENMENT TO PENETRATE INTO ALL WALKS OF LIFE, OTHERWISE EVEN THOSE WHO PROFESS TO SYMPATHIZE WITH THE LANDLESS WILL BE CAUGHT UNKNOWINGLY IN THIS CAKE GRABBING BUSINESS THEY SO MUCH DEPLORE. DUMONT ONCE SAID IT IS ABSURD TO DIE FOR THOSE UNDERPRIVILEGED WHO DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHY ONE HAS TO DIE FIGHTING FOR THEM. MAJORITY LIBERATION OF THE MINDS IS INDISPENSABLE THUS WHILE WE DEBATE LET THOSE WHO CARE EMBARK ON THIS ED TO THE MASSES.

Where did they get the maize from that is drought tolerant? Was it not created by farmers cross pollinating and seed adapting over time? Is it not true that Monsanto just took that seed and made it roundup ready and BT as with the other GMO maize and called it drought tolerant as a sales pitch. What about mulching and the building of soil to combat climate change and help with water holding. GMO farms using glyphosate herbicides don’t build soil or use mulching. In fact the microbes in the soil (that absorb methane from the atmosphere) are destroyed by these herbicides. ?? Gene editing is in heated debate! Scientists are very worried that it has the potential of wiping out entire species. If the there are so many benefits why are 1 in 4 South Africans still going to bed hungry? It’s been over 20 years that GMOs have been our staple diet?

Is this public space being used as free advertising for Monsanto??? What he says is not factual. In fact it is quite the opposite. Fake news!

Fleur D'Rose If expropriation of land without payment is a thorn in the current conversation, the logic would then be why not compensate the land owners, and then in return, the land owners MUST then pay back what is owed to black people whose land was taken from them without payment?? This would be fair but I guess this option would be debated against also!

How about a debate on the actual history of South Africa instead of the ol' "white man came and took it all" narrative?

All those African countries receive huge amounts of aid from Western countries. South Africa did not receive aid in the apartheid era but now receive aid from many Western countries. The USA gives SA $300 million a year.

How can the man in the street understand 'food security'? I think the masses want the basics. A piece of land with a house with water, electricity, sewerage, garbage disposal etc. Why hasn't the government allocated land and built municipal housing areas with shops, schools, police and health services etc which would generate jobs and a fair standard of living? People should not have to live in shacks or have to spend hours traveling on trains and buses to work. Factories and jobs should be established close to those areas. That R700 billion loss in corruption by the ANC in the last 20 years could have achieved much of this. It is irresponsible to expropriate land without compensation putting food security at risk as a band aid for corruption.
