Maybe.. just maybe.. this is a part of Delaware's history. ( It's in the name.) Some may miss the "forest for the trees." I pray that more information is absorbed through your videos. Thank you for sharing these historic videos.

Why is every one of your videos about black people? Why call your channel Delaware history and all you talk about is black history?

I totally don't need to know this, and I really appreciate all of the asks for people to come share their stories or to just send an email. I am curious, did UD compensate anybody who shared their story with them?

Nice presentation! Thank you. Commenting on the beginning of Joshua’s part, I was wondering if much of his presentation could have reflected more of the racial discrimination of the time and how that experience tracked into the present. Could anti-“urban” or anti-“density” policies today like the construction of the highway, redlining, etc. could just as easily be called “anti-black” policies? How does an underlining motivation that is inherently racist impact how we ought to move forward given the negative impacts of these policies? Full-disclosure, I haven’t finished the presentation yet, but wanted to comment before I forgot. Thanks!

Did you ever review the automated closed captions? It says "harry potter underground railroad" and that's just in the beginning. I don't know if it can be edited, but it should be attempted or just don't have it.

Would love to know the name of George Reed's barber who was Haitian. I tried to google him but nothing turned up. Can you spell it?

In my childhood from September until completed I was assigned alone by Bill Webb , Mrs Lairds grounds keeping company . I spent everyday after school , raking and bagging leaves , and on the weekends . Always saving the Gardens in ground pool for last I always had help as the pool also had to be pumped dry . I sprayed in the spring all brick sidewalks with a deadly weed killer that I had to mix via yellow crystals known as Dupont Amate X , in the summertime I cut the grass across from the Read House . I never went inside often except to use the Servants toilet near the Hearth through the rear door . Mrs Lairds Maid and Butler kept an eye on me as I was to venture no further that that area . Now as I was part of it and have no names to give , after Mrs Lairds death , Bill Webb was still being utilized for other services . One weekend he hired ever kid in the neighborhood as we were to clean out the Read House basement . As this was don'e from basement windows on right side of house , I took things from the window , stacking things in 2 pickup trucks , and then the items were taken to a storage facility for the Historical Society . I remember loading bottles of liquor , entire Knights Armors and many many swords. Did all these items belonging to Mrs Laird ever go to a museum??? Just curious as the George Read home was a huge part of my childhood , from age 10 to 15 , May Mrs Laird Rip

Yes! William Thompson Read, grandson of George Read I, lived in a house on Harmony Street, where this table was located for years before finally coming to the Read House & Gardens on the Strand.

As a child I grew up attending August Quarterly festivities along with family who would travel from PA. The sights, the sounds, the multitudes of people, and oh the food ... magical.
