For anyone who needs to save money ~ you can buy food grade buckets with lids (the lids air watertight) and cut a tiny hole in the top large enough for a hose, and re-seal around it with silicone, and also make a match sized hole, and use a match or birthday candle holder or similar, and again silicone to seal it off (to release suction so water can flow freely when filling or emptying) food grade buckets can be bought for $5-$10-$20-$40 etc each depending on the size or where you get them. Some restaurants even throw them away all the time, I just got 6 large ones for free because of that exact reason.

In my experience, Mobil 1 5w30 ESP is hard to find at popular retail outlets. The only MB 228.51/229.51 approved oil I (usually) see at Walmart is Pennzoil 5w30 Euro L. Great video overall. I own a 2010 Airstream Interstate built on a 2008 Freightliner Sprinter 3500 chassis that looks very similar to yours, so your video is particularly helpful.

What a great van, great use of space

It is recommended to dry the air intake to the engine and change the air filter at each oil change. As well as the fuel filter if you want an engine that lasts a long time. Keep in mind that the recommended oil change is absolutely the longest time between changes. It is good for the engine to do it more often.

FYI - Mann makes the filters for Mercedes-benz. MB Service Advisor recommended I use Mann filters if I choose to replace them myself because they are the same filters MB uses.

This is outdated. Current specs call for a 229.52 oil. There is a valvoline type available in Walmart that meets this standard. I believe it's the European formula 0-40 ...... read the label.

Are you required to be on the grid, or is there an option to get off grid permits for solar and water collection?
@Lifepothesis4 ай бұрын
You are not required to be on-grid where the tiny house is currently located, we just connected it for simplicity's sake. As far as I know there are no permits required in our area for solar or water collection, but this may vary by municipality.

Does anyone know if doing an oil change yourself voids the manufacturer warranty? I'm sure they dig to find any reason not to honor the warranty if you run into an engine issue and if they see missed oil changes (since there would be no official record) they would quickly say nope?
@SecretSquirrel65654 ай бұрын
I was told by the Sprinter Service Advisor in Tucson doing your own oil changes will not void the warranty but you need to keep complete records. I interpret this to mean saving receipts showing what oil & filters you used. Of course maintaining a record of dates & actions performed is essential.

Question on how did you install the 12 volt accessories? Thanks? Last question any problem getting partsfor freightliner since it is discontinued.

Shell Rotella T6 Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 is 228.51 compliant, which makes it suitable for my 2015 3.0L diesel Sprinter. Plus is WAY cheaper than the others.
@porkrind35124 ай бұрын
It's not suitable even though some dealers use it. Rotella is made for truck engines. The sprinter uses a car engine. There is a difference.
@BigPapa6574 ай бұрын
@@porkrind3512 You're wrong. The Multi-Vehicle T6 5W-30 is MB 228.51 compliant. The 15W-40 is not. The 15W-40 is commonly used by all brands of diesel truck engines. I googled the size of the oil filter wrench and it gave me a 74. 74 it's way too small now I don't even have a ride back to get a the right part. Do you know what size it is 0:46
@fty-ys4ni7 ай бұрын
I was better off getting an adjustable oil filter wrench. I have one and I can use it on all of my vehicles which all vary in filter size. So I'd consider that if I were you.

He even said 84 I didn't hear it. Or I heard it and thought it was 74. Anyway my oil change went well so did my transmission drain filter change and torque converter flush

Austin, You might want to check out the likely company that actually makes the Mobile 1 synthetic oil. It is Warren Petroleum or Warren Industries which also makes the Walmart Super Tech that is virtually identical to the Mobile 1 but at about half the price. Check it out and some reading and save yourself some $$.

21:00 A note about the fantastic fan, the remote control units are not able to open the lid part way. So with the remote, the lid is either all the way up or all the way down. I think there is an option to manually turn a knob, but the one I installed was too far for me to reach. Your choice of a manual one was good for your application.
