I've been messing with dying discs for a little while now, and came across your videos just after doing my first lotion dye. Lessons learned for sure. I am going to pick up some clear glue and some floetrol (if I can find it) before doing my next dye. Instead of glue, I used a "blank" bed of lotion and though the dye took well and the disc does not look bad, I do think the glue would be a much better "medium". I also, like a goofball, did not wash my disc! It was brand new so I completely forgot to do so. My dye-to-lotion ratio was also weak. Super glad to come across your videos, definitely subscribed, you're a huge help and I appreciate you not gatekeeping your techniques! There's so many ways to approach dying discs and I feel like it can be difficult to get good instructions on your own. Thank you for the videos!

Bought Queen Helen and it so shit its so runny but it’s because it’s from Amazon Sweden they probably cheeped out and filled it with a more watery mix so they can sell even more bottles because they think we won’t know the difference but it’s very clear when you are gonna try use it for dyeing. (I kinda went of 😂 the sentences probably didn’t make so much sense but English isn’t my language)

How effective do you think this method would be on a clear disc? Just picked up a crystal flx get freaky zone and it’s completely transparent. Currently afraid to throw it because my home course tends to eat a lot of discs and I need to do something to make it stand out a bit more haha
@dyesbyredd Жыл бұрын
If you go to my Instagram I have examples of what that looks like! You may have to scroll down a little, but I have done plenty of transparent discs and this method looks great on them.

Do you use heat at all while you let it sit in the bed?
@dyesbyredd Жыл бұрын
I personally do not but I know plenty of other people that do for various methods. I think the golden standard is around 100-105 degrees Fahrenheit for around 2-3 hours. Just don't let it get above 110.

I used to use queen Helene cocoa butter but now have moved on to Suave brand cocoa butter lotion. I have seen people do the double LazyWave with just floetrol but in my option the lines don't come out as crisp and clean. I'm not saying that's a bad thing by any means tho, it just looks a little different from what you see with my lotion/floetrol mixes.

Couple quick questions if im using white glue can i add water or acetone to make a lil thinner. I premixed some of my dyes in acetone can i use skme of that in my lotion to thin it some. Oh sorry for the questions but ive done just clear glue and dye mixed woth acetone so do i need the flotrol and whats its purpose. Thanks a ton for rhe videos keep em up buddy
@dyesbyredd Жыл бұрын
For white glue you can absolutely thin it out with water. That is actually what I used to do before I switched to clear glue. I would avoid acetone for thinning glue. As for the lotion dyes tho, you can absolutely use your acetone/dye mixture to dye the lotion. For my pink/Green/black colors I frequently use worm dip to boost my colors.

Have you tried this with a heat lamp? Would that work, speed up the process?
@dyesbyredd Жыл бұрын
I personally have not tried but I think there are others that do this method with heat. I think it could definitely cut down the sit time. For my personal preference tho, I like dyeing in the evening, having a batch sit for 8ish hours, wake up, and pulling all the dyes. If you give it a shot let me know how it works! I feel like the general room of thumb is not letting the temp get above 110 degrees. My guess would be around 105 for 2-3 hours
@BillFromAZ Жыл бұрын
I tried this last night....left the disc for 24 hours and it turned out pretty good for a first try, the only issue i had was that some bubbles showed up. I think that since the lotion is in 'lines' and not smooth there are valleys which catch bubbles. i've got to figure out how to eliminate those.
@dyesbyredd Жыл бұрын
If you're getting those "valleys" that is typically caused by the lotion lines being too thick in consistency. getting the right consistency for these beds is a little tricky and might take a few tries to really nail it down. But once you do, you got it made in the shade
