Joey Logano won The Championship with as many Top 5s as Teammate Ryan Blaney had in DNFs, as many Top 10s as William Byron had in Top 5s, as many Top 15s as Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney & Denny Hamlin had in Top 10s, as many Top 20s as William Byron & Tyler Reddick had in Top 10s which is equivalent to as many Sub 20s as Kyle Larson & Christopher Bell had in Top 5s which included as many DNFs as Kyle Larson had in Wins.

Just to give even more perspective, Kyle Busch in 2015, despite only competing in 25 races, *still* fared better in nearly *every* statistical metric than Joey Logano did in 2024 across 36 races. Busch 2015: 5 wins, 12 top 5s, 16 top 10s, 21 top 20s, 1 pole, 2 DNF’s, 736 laps led, 8.2 average start, 10.78 average finish. Logano 2024: 4 wins, 7 top 5s, 13 top 10s, 21 top 20s, 3 poles, 6 DNF’s, 414 laps led, 12.0 average start, 17.11 average finish.

Blaney could have won, but the last couple laps he "experimented" rather than continued attacking. Potential team favoritism?

I think Logano made a great point in his post race interview yesterday. He basically said, the only reason so many people have enormous hissy fits about the NASCAR playoffs and not other sports is because other sports have always had playoffs and NASCAR fans are big on clinging to the past. Does anybody here think that all other sports should abolish their playoff formats? Are the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals or 2007 NY Giants illegitimate champions?
@zenosphere6490
@zenosphere6490 15 күн бұрын
As far as I know, most of us are complaining since this format doesn't reward the driver who was the most consistent all season. The title has lost its meaning under this system.
@ryanmorrison3699
@ryanmorrison3699 15 күн бұрын
@ I mean, the same could be said about every sport except for the Premier League and its feeder leagues. The 116-win Mariners got bounced in the first round of the MLB playoffs in 2001, the winningest team in MLB History. I mentioned the NY Giants before, they beat a 16-0 Patriots team, who was 19-0 by the time the two teams met in that year’s Super Bowl. Like Joey said, the only reason NASCAR fans complain about playoffs when they’re in NASCAR, is because they have a history to cling to. There was never a time when baseball, football or basketball didn’t have playoffs so nobody ever complains when the best team doesn’t win any of those championships. In fact, when an underdog wins a Stanley Cup or Super Bowl, the opposite happens. They are celebrated by all as underdogs who won. Why doesn’t that happen in NASCAR?
@zenosphere6490
@zenosphere6490 15 күн бұрын
@@ryanmorrison3699 Underdog race wins are still celebrated. However, there is clear, numerical data that shows that the playoffs simply don't award the most consistent, well-peforming driver all year. It rewards clutch victories, rendering the regular season useless. Why should Harrison Burton, a backmarker, have a chance for the title because of one fluke win at Daytona? Same thing with Suarez at Altanta, and this is coming from a Trackhouse fan.
@ryanmorrison3699
@ryanmorrison3699 15 күн бұрын
@ Why should a 7-9 Seahawks team make the playoffs while two 10-6 Giants and Buccaneers teams are left out in 2010?
@zenosphere6490
@zenosphere6490 15 күн бұрын
@ryanmorrison3699 From 1990 to 2003, the driver with the highest average finishing position took the cup all but 4 times (Winston Format). Under the playoffs from 2014 to now, this only happened twice. The most consistent driver with the highest average finish position is not rewarded. In the case of the Sehawks, Giants, and Bucaneers, I agree that it is bizarre that the team with the better average gets knocked out. That being said, there are fewer variables that can have an impact on that happening in football compared to any motorsport. Football is played on the same type of field every week, with the main differences being weather, lighting, and the opposing team. In racing, no two tracks are the same, whether it's surface, driving line, banking, weather, age... the list goes on. You can be great at one track (Phoenix in the case of Logano), but awful at any other. So why should you get the most prestigious title at the end if you're only good at the tracks you're required to be good at? Looking at Logano's average finish of 17th, that clearly is the case of what happened. No one complains about this in F1 because the most deserving driver is, statistically, the one who performed the best at nearly every track, something that separates a champion driver from an average one.

It's genuinely amazing to witness so many people finally realizing how this Points Format is a Bad thing. It didn't happen in 2015, or 2018 or even 2020, it has now happened in 2024 as I feel like it had to take a lot of drastically bad things to happen to get this to dawn on so many people.

I'm not a logano fan i don't have a favorite driver and the most deserving champion wasn't winning no matter what cus that was either bell or larson but logano played the system well don't blame joey for nascar's format and for bowman getting disqualified at the roval that's on him and his team not the 22 team but joey does have 4 wins on the season almost 5 at Richmond including the all star race so it's not like his year has been horrible he now has the second most wins on the season I've just learned to accept results and move on it is what it is there's just always so much negativity
