Its funny to me that youre showing us your first draft on each piece you did. There is no finality on art in a process, thats why they rely on relative standards in a vacuum with one piece of work. Do each one two or three times with sincerity, let the originals guide you not direct you...if its not salvageable, meaning it doesnt have a path in you that continues then leave it til later. You only got rejected by the standards the commercial art world adheres to. Plus if you are serious about art, where it poisons you to not do it, then your portfolio will come out of doing art each day. If its hard to do art each day then you have to approach with the right motive. For me I gradually decay and lose my self if I dont do art. What scares artists is that their true issues come out in their art. So why hide that? Only if we are special since everyone shares these same fears etc. You are the art in progress so its not that hard to find your true motive. If you paint for money you will never be a true artist imo however good or bad the world sees your work. They have their own filters so does it make sense to follow ones that judge us?

You seem so happy, I'm applying for illustration right now and I am so scared to get rejected, but hearing your story and watching your older videos made me a lot less anxious.
@juliaiwanetzki3 ай бұрын
I wish you good luck with getting in! But even if you would get rejected, try seeing it as an opportunity to try something new, that defenitely helped me with being less scared of it. A rejection also does not mean that you would have to give up your dream completely, just try again! :)

A very short advice: maybe look at "Werk ohne Author" by german film director Florian von Donnersmarck. It is a fantastic movie about what it means to learn painting, to be conformist or not and finally to find one path. This movie is, hidden, the biography of a major post WW2 painter: Gerhard Richter. Also, you seem only ambitioning to study in fine arts, but have you interested in graphic design or UX/UI design? Thes fields stand as a good compromise between artistic and economic purposes and may help you to get out of the critical subjectivity regarding your work

Best part is, the school is Fine Arts which is the exact school that rejected Hitler.

The problems with these is not the art itself, it’s the cliche - butterflies or birds flying around a subject with a plain background and centered subject. The message itself isn’t anything original, there’s no allegory when it’s clearly pointed out. The second one is a cliche as it’s a portrait of a depressed young woman. Any moody portrait that doesn’t say anything more than “I’m an artist, I am moody” is a cliche. The third one is photographed badly, it is also a cliche. The pastel gradient sky over the water when there is so much more that can be done with a sky or even water. There’s no movement or a subject or anything special about it. It’s also hard to tell what medium it was in. Maybe gauche maybe pastels maybe watercolors... The next “Under the Moon” is a perfectly centered pond. Then two centered portraits (blank backgrounds and no messages about the subjects). The others are too simplistic. Centered. A celebrity portrait centered with blank background on poor quality paper. The portraits are good, they need backgrounds and perspectives and all of them don’t need to be perfectly centered in the foreground. I’d focus on your strengths such as drawing and add more detail, get outside your comfort zone and do perspectives and add backgrounds. Practice painting and learn more technique. Let yourself be inspired rather than regurgitating what someone else has already done or said or very acceptable political messages. No celebrities, please. No anime style. You have skill. You undoubtedly have an eye and something to say - use it. Say it. Have you ever heard the phrase for writers “write what you know”? The same is true for artists - include your imagination but, when you make statements they should be about what you know and experience. You might not even realize what you can draw from your experience. Look around. Look at it, differently. Play with the perspectives.

It's much better to study philosophy. I like how you have religious contexts in your poetry. Your art is developing well, and you are exploring media. It's also good that you come to know what you like and don't like. It always takes years to perfect a craft and find what you are really happy with. The most important thing is studying and finding what needs to be said in the world. Art school is full of charlatans, and it is not intellectual, although it thinks it is. You will be far more interesting with a Philosophy degree.
