Heavenly shades of night are falling It's twilight time Out of the mist, your voice is calling 'Tis twilight time When purple-colored curtains Mark the end of the day I'll hear you, my dear, at twilight time Deepening shadows gather splendor As day is done Fingers of night will soon surrender The setting sun I count the moments, darling 'Til you're here with me Together at last at twilight time Here in the afterglow of day We keep our rendezvous beneath the blue Here in the sweet and same old way I fall in love again as I did then Deep in the dark, your kiss will thrill me Like days of old Lighting the spark of love that fills me With dreams untold Each day I pray for evening Just to be with you Together at last at twilight time Here in the afterglow of day We keep our rendezvous beneath the blue Here in the sweet and same old way I fall in love again as I did then Deep in the dark, your kiss will thrill me Like days of old Lighting the spark of love that fills me With dreams untold Each day I pray for evening Just to be with you Together at last at twilight time Together at last at twilight time

The word underrated gets overused, but it definitely applies to this fellow. He was underappreciated and cut down way too soon.

I remember driving through Memphis way back in the 1980s when this song came on one of Memphis,'s legendary radio stations! It was a perfect setup, so much so that it is still burned into my memory decades later!

LOL! I know I shouldn't admit this, but I'm British, and I love this song. I have an LP of Johnny Horton's and this is the identical song on my LP, EXCEPT on mine, the words are "We fired our guns but the REBELS kept a-comin'," instead of British kept a-comin'. :0) Someone on here had said there was a "British" version so I had to listen to it twice to make sure I was remembering it properly. :)
