The railing look to be from the head of a bed, and the bed base wire frame was standing in front. And as @KepValley says, a small folding pruning saw is a great tool in such places, or a Tramontina Bolo Machete. I have both I also have a collection of Nepalese Kukri, real Indiana Jones stuff 😄

Cool exploration! That’s a tough exploration for sure and totally with you on the glasses! Been eye poked too many times as well. A small folding saw and hand pruning shears are great to have to cut yourself a pathway into that kind of thicket. Tough spot with vegetation and best done early spring or late fall. I worry most about hornets and wasps in those places and would be a tough escape if running into them. ATB and happy hunting!
