Great video and brought back some memories. I haven't fished for Musky in 20 years. Good seeing videos like this. What part of Wisconsin you fishing. I live almost 2 hours north of Madison.

Thanks. Glad the video brought back memories. Never want those to fade. For musky, I do a lot of fishing in NW Wisconsin. Trying to carve some time for hitting and learning the Bay as it is closer to home.

A few. Not sure if it is lack of current but the walleyes don't seem to be gravitating to that area like years past. I'm not hearing much success being had from the shore/wading. If you go out trying from shore, good luck. Hopefully some have made their way up.

I need some ideas with what to use and color for walleye on the fox only caught 5 in 3 days
@scottjohnson6786
@scottjohnson6786 6 ай бұрын
I may have a bit of overkill on the number of rods rigged up (don't tell my wife.🤣). I'm a musky fisherman trying to be a walleye fisherman so I will switch rods/lures every 5 casts or so until something works. Also, experiment with the retrieves with each lure. I have a couple rods rigged with #6 Rippin' Raps. Firetiger (chrome), and Black/Purple/Pink. Have found the most productive retrieve to be short hops close to the bottom. A couple rods rigged with Blades. The 1/4 oz purple Acme V-Rod has been on fire. Use the 1st hole closest to the front of the lure. It tends to give wobble with the least amount of pull. Try going totally finesse with it. What I mean by that is after it hits bottom, give the slightest of rod tip raises or even 1/2 to 1 reel revolution with no rod tip raise. Just enough to stay close to the bottom and still give it action. Try with any style of blade bait. I just found the V-Rod to work best for me. I have three rods rigged with plastics. 1/4 oz jigs with various head types (no current allows for lighter weight). Tickle Worm in Arkansas Shad, B-Fishn Purple/Chartreuse tail. Firecracker. Chartreuse. I'll mix a paddle tail in as well. If the fishing is brutally tough, which it has been. I have a rod rigged with a Dubuque setup. I'll use this to work upstream at about .3 mph keeping contact with the bottom as I work through fish I have been marking. I have a couple rods rigged with hair jigs. One w/ purple, black. The other with some gold/brown (gobi). Just crawling on the bottom. lastly, a couple with #10 Down Deep Husky Jerks. Orange/Purple, UV Firetiger, Chrome Black, Chrome Purple all produce. Probably more than you wanted in addition to the color question. Apologize if it's TMI. Just thought color is one thing, presentation has been another part of the equation. All my rods are medium light fast to medium fast. 20lb Suffix 832 with 12lb Fluorocarbon leader (some would say this is overkill but it doesn't seem to impact the bite and is nice for getting back a snagged lure. Sorry about that Ed The Diver on KZbin 🤣). Hope this helps. Let me know if any of it works for you.

How are you liking the Vexus?
@scottjohnson6786
@scottjohnson6786 7 ай бұрын
Couldn’t be happier. I had a couple Rangers in the past. Great boats. And I know there will always be differing opinions on brands (I love the freedom of competition). Anyway, my last boat buy was always going to be the 619 Fisherman. Perfect size for getting out by myself or with a few others. Trailering to different lakes as well as easily handling what the Bay can whip up. I was pissed when Johnny Morris bought out Ranger. IMO, gutted the brand from a quality and offering standpoint (discontinued the 619). That may rub Ranger owners the wrong way but I can respect their choice. I think Forrest L. Wood had sellers remorse driving the creation of the Vexus brand and thankfully included the DVX19(S) in the lineup (same beam as the 22’). Exactly what I was looking for. Rock solid out on the Bay (dry cutting through waves). Deep cockpit with more features than I can go into. A number of KZbin videos out there walking through them. I guess the only drawback(s) could be price (well worth it so far from my experience). The other is the height off the water. If you are a die hard bass fisherman expecting to lip a fish from over the side (from anywhere on the boat), that’s a challenge (me with alligator arms 😂). Aside from the boat, I loved my Yamaha on my last boat. Phenomenal outboard. Was a bit concerned going to the Merc as the Yamaha was so great. Two years with the Pro XS and no issues whatsoever. Probably way more than you expected for a response but I could talk boats/fishing to no end 😊. I love the rig. Thanks for asking the question and keeping me fired up.

@@scottjohnson6786 Thanks for the detailed write up!! A few years ago I was about to pull the trigger on a 19 and ended up getting a used Ranger 2050 Reata. Like the boat, but just a bit big for what we do. I do not think you are the only one that feels that way about Ranger getting bought out. I have seen a ton of comments about how the quality has dropped while the prices keep going up. As far as price goes, that has gone insane on all brands really. Even 18 foot metal boats can get into the same zone. Hopefully that levels out here soon. Thanks again for the response, I spend way to much time researching boats :)
@scottjohnson6786
@scottjohnson6786 7 ай бұрын
@@nicholasmoen3244 I'm with you on the over-researching on the boats. Maybe that's a good thing as there are choices. On the insane price increase side, that was also a consideration. I bought the boat in January of '22. Economy (interest rates) and supply chain issues were really starting to become ugly coming out of Covid. I was about year or so from pulling the trigger on an upgrade. I could see these issues coming related to the business I'm in as well. So I found the boat (in stock) that I'd order other than a Yamaha vs Merc (not a big deal at this point). Took the wife to look at it. Loved it. If I hadn't pulled the trigger on it, buying in the future was seeing 6 to 9 month delays on the boat. And you couldn't necessarily get the electronics to complete the package. And the same rig would be $6 to 8k more in price. So bought it, shopped the best interest rate (before the first hike), Took the dealers last Terrova from their stock (they would put the unit that was for my boat into their stock to replace the one put on my boat when it delivered). Finally, took the Helix G4 MSI unit from my Ranger (installed on the 6 mos earlier) and put on the bow of the Vexus (dealer had no idea when shipment of the unit for the Vexus would be in). Desperate times call for desperate measures. Lol. The dealer was great to work with and they had me on the water by ice out on the Fox. Good luck in your research. I know it will pay off in the end.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking into wireless mics to get audio that is consistent and clear. I had audio mixed in with this video unlike all my others but it was faint and the GoPro editing is horrible when trying to incorporate background music. It came across distorted on the KZbin upload. So I just overlayed some not so good but clear KZbin music after my additional post. Thanks again for the feedback. Definitely incentivizes the wireless mic addition.

Thanks. Funny you bring that up. I'd say about 1/3 of the fight. Lol. Technology is great when it works. Not so much when it doesn't. I typically hit Spot Lock on my trolling motor when fighting a fish. When I hit the Spot Lock button, it appeared to have wanted to go back to the last spot I had locked on (this has happened a couple times, but rare). Maybe 40 yards away. So now I had the boat changing course 180 degrees. And wanting to get to that previous spot full speed ahead. I also have the foot control hooked up to the trolling motor. By the time I disabled the spot lock fiasco from the foot control, a portion of the fight was from the back of the boat with no camera coverage. No battle footage. Just beautiful scenery as you state and some colorful off-camera language. Probably could have been posted as a "Bill Dance" type blooper. Lol. Glad you enjoyed the clip.
