congratulations!! Any suggestion the way you use the eq on the bottom right side? I can see that is on bit I'd like to know your general preference especially for acustic pianos!! thanks

Hello. Speaking of electric pianos, I sometimes boost by about 3 dB around 8kHz to bring out the shiny tone of tines. On acoustic pianos I rarely add any EQ at all. Maybe a bit low-end, but not much. Thanks for listening!

HAH! At 6:06, after 3 notes I knew it was Londonderry Aire! Great job! I actually HAD a real 1980 Rhodes suitcase model 88 (I think it was a Model II or III). The CP88 absolutely NAILS the Rhodes, in my opinion. Some of them you demonstrated have that "bark" that is so classic. The bass notes also nailed it. Great job demonstrating all of these amazing patches. The Rhodes is such a BEEFY sound. Yum! I grew up listening to a lot of Al Jarreau and they used the Rhodes a LOT on their stuff. Also Yellowjackets and they had a Dyno-My-Rhodes which had a lot of preamp and a volume swell bar that made it really expressive. Corea's Mark V was gorgeous. Actually many of your patches are gorgeous. They bring out different aspects of the Rhodes. Ooh...Barking Keys! Nice! That slight edge of distortion/drive.

Hello, Kevin! You have a very fast melody-recognition skills, Londonderry is one of my favorite songs! :) You are very lucky to have had that Rhodes. I agree with you: the CP88/73 has really good samples. I hope Yamaha makes an update to the operating system and adds more sounds, I would like some mechanical noises for example. Lindo trabalho! Parabéns! Encontrei seu canal por meio do Instagram, também sou arquiteto e gosto muito do seus croquis! A uns anos atrás, ainda no período da faculdade de arquitetura, busquei estudar um vinculo entre Cor e Som, para assim poder criar ilustrações e composições musicais que se complementassem. Para arquitetura as formas Cimáticas também são um bom ponto de estudo! Na época eu percebi um problema, na cor as composições mais harmoniosas eram as análogas, que se encontram justamente nas tonalidades mais próximas. Mas na música é o contrário! As tonalidades mais próximas se tornam dissonantes, gera uma tenção muito grande... o que gerava conflito com a harmonia das cores. A solução que eu achei foi trabalhar com o Circulo das Quintas ao invés do Circulo Cromático. Ao assistir seus vídeos já me inspirei e usei a sua teoria em cima do Circulo de Quintas, e funciona muito bem!!! Tanto para a formação de acordes quanto para a composição de Cores e Sons! Algumas das figuras permanecem as mesmas, outras simplesmente se espelham, e outras mudam completamente! Vale a pena testar o circulo das quintas! Aliás, se você já publicou o artigo, poderia me encaminhar para eu poder ler? Mais uma vez, parabéns pelo trabalho!

Excelente punto de vista. Tendrás algún material tomando en cuenta los colores? Note que le asignaste un color a cada nota, se que es al azar, pero existirá algo como ¿escuchar el azul? 🔵

Muchas gracias por tu comentario, Adbeel. Como bien dices, la asignación de colores fue al azar. Sin embargo, creo que sí es posible relacionar el espectro de colores con frecuencias o el círculo de cuartas/quintas. Por ejemplo: si DO fuera azul, FA sería ser verde-azulado, SI BEMOL sería verde, FA SOSTENIDO sería naranja y así sucesivamente. A mí siempre me ha gustado creer que MI BEMOL es violeta porque es un efecto sinestésico que se produce en mi interior, pero es una cuestión personal. ¡Saludos y gracias por tu tiempo!

Oh yeah! GREAT JOB! So…get this: I actually HAD a true Rhodes suitcase model III back in about 1978/1980. I lugged that silly thing to gigs all the time (probably as heavy as a Hammond B3 with Leslie…sigh). Anyway…great demo of the Rhodes on the CP88. I hope to do the same thing soon. You’re inspiring me man!!

Excelente demostración, pregunta, ¿todos los sonidos tienen la opción de resonancia alícuota así como las simpatéticas? Doy por hecho que la de los atenuadores (dampers) están ahí y que son ajustables, gracias por el vídeo

Gracias, David. La resonancia está disponible únicamente para los sonidos de la sección de pianos acústicos (color amarillo). Los parámetros no son ajustables hasta el momento. Varias personas hemos solicitado a Yamaha que el 'damper resonance' sea ajustable, ojalá lo hagan posible en las siguientes versiones del sistema operativo. ¡Saludos y gracias por escuchar!

Nice live sets! How do you find the CP88 keybed for electric piano (rhodes)? Is it a bit heavier than optimal? I am debating between a CP73 or 88

Thanks, Edwardo. Good to know you like my sounds! I love the CP88 keybed, feels very natural for me, even playing Rhodes/DX sounds. But is just my opinion. My recommendation is go to the store and compare both side by side. Good luck!

I realize my discussion of the CP88 keybed doesn’t really answer the poster’s questions about playing the Rhodes sounds, however, I will say this: the CP88 is slightly stiffer than my original Rhodes suitcase Mark III from 1978, but the CP88 is NOT as stiff as the keybed on the Mo-DX and DGX-640. So it’s kind of right in between. Now…regarding the difference between the CP88 keybed and the CP73, I agree with Mr. Sandoval, you’ll just have to go try it in a store hopefully. If it WERE ME, I would probably choose the CP88 because my fingers are strong enough now that I can totally shred on the CP88 even though the keybed is quite a bit stiffer than the CP73. I also have this problem when I play on “semi-weighted” keybeds (which I think is what is on the CP73) where my fingers are strong enough that they actually somehow slip off the keys and play sloppier, than if I was on the CP88. The bottom line FOR ME: I would rather have the stiffer keybed of the CP88 and simply force myself to strengthen my hands (and now I have the premier keybed plus 88 full keys!) than I would the 73 key semi-weighted version. Hope that helps. Again, I hope to have a KZbin video walking through all of this some day. The CP88 is TOTALLY under-rated and I think more of us need to be trumpeting its glory to the rooftops! I have owned and used MANY MANY different Yamaha keyboards (XF-8, XF-7, DGX-640, Tyros 5) and the CP88 literally blows them all away in MANY MANY areas. Okay…I’m done blathering…hope I haven’t offended anyone with my exuberance! Sincerely, Kevin B. Selby
