Problem is the Snap-on dual 80 is just so damn good. And has a real lifetime repair or replacement warranty. I looked at those Koken, but the grip looks like it's made for midget hands. Long flexhead rarchets, an inch longer makes a big difference. I couldn't imagine using any flexhead for everday use shorter than a Pittsburgh. The Koken I looked at appeared to have only 1 screw holding the thing together. That's not good. They not cheap either. They might be ok, but Snap-on warranties almost everything I thow at him, even wore out tools. Nobody else does that. Who are you gone throw that Koken at?

@ No problem, I personally use a bit of engine assembly grease(Super Lube 19003 in my case) on the back of the drive gear, and a thin coat of light weight oil(SL 53008) on the drive gear teeth/pawl/detent. Works a treat for most of my kit.

@MeepersJeepers1 I've uses cheaper tools in the past, when buying a set of box store sockets, a wrench set, some extensions, and screwdrivers cost less than a tool truck ratchet. I've also driven Toyota Corollas when I needed basic, reliable transportation. But your needs and tastes and budget changes as you move through life, and I'm grateful I can buy the tools I want and drive the cars I want now. I just don't get the people trying to shame others for buying Snap-On instead of Harbor Freight lately - it's my money, I'll spend it as I please.

@VorsprungDurchNik I've mostly seen people shaming snap on for their prices lately. The last shop I was in a couple of the guys thought they should only buy snap on. They were constantly borrowing tools and in absurd with the truck owner and corporate. The further I get in my career the less I get on the trucks. I enjoy searching for similar quality tools at much better prices. Gearwrench ratchets are better than any of my truck brands.
@VorsprungDurchNik
@VorsprungDurchNik 28 күн бұрын
@aaadamt964 It makes as much sense as someone shaming Bentley for their prices and pushing Acura as an alternative. Are they both cars? Yes. Do they achieve the same broader goal of getting the occupants from point a to point b? Yes. Do people who own either like their vehicle? More than likely yes. But one is priced higher for various reasons, and that excludes some potential buyers, both voluntarily and involuntarily. Should that be a point of contention? Absolutely not, as when someone attempts to shame Snap-On for their pricing, it just sounds like someone is bitter that they personally cannot afford the Snap-On. So if everyone is so happy with their Icon and Tekton and Gearwrench, why even bring it up? Over the last 30 years I have owned everything from Popular Mechanics tool sets from Wal-Mart, good old USA made Craftsman and crappy end-of-days USA made Craftsman, low end Pittsburgh to Pittsburgh Pro, Icon, crappy pre-merger Stanley, GearWrench, Ace Hardware branded tools, Mac, Matco, Cornwell... You name it, I probably have it sitting in one of my numerous tool carts and tool boxes in my houses and sheds and garages. But personally, when it comes to my toolboxes and the hand tools I use the most, ratchets, sockets, hammers, screwdrivers, and *some* wrenches, I prefer Snap-On for many reasons, and for me, the prices are not out of line for the comfort, quality, engineering, and reliability I get from them. There is no shame in Snap-On charging the prices they do for the product and service they deliver and the investment they make in engineering and developing new tools while employing tens of thousands of Americans.

My go to ratchets are Tekton 90 tooth flex head in 3/8" n 1/2" with Snap On hard handles bcuz I feel like I have larger, better grip than Tekton's cushion grips. And a Gearwrench 120xp 1/4" with a Snap On hard handle, the GW cushion grip is very small and very thin n I have problems with grip strength bcuz of carpal tunnel and arthritis in my hands. My grip in the cold is really bad n I always seem to have something to do outside in the winter. I do own a long handle Koken 3/8" Dr Z series n want to add 3 Koken to the arsenal 1- the compact 3/8" Dr that u have, n 1 each of the short n long 1/4" dr Z series. I have a Matco that is broken now, and a Snap On 1/4" flex head hard handle that sees a good amount of work. I took a Pittsburgh 24" 1/2" breaker bar n put a 1/2" Snap On flex head ratchet head n hard handle on it bcuz the breaker bar anvil was breaking few times with over tightened lug nuts. Seems I get cars n trucks that the new guys at a shop put on n I'm guessing they're using a high torque gun on full blast, lol.

SK was bougt out by Chinese company. If you buy ir warranty any SK stuff today, there's no telling what you gone get back. SK USA is dead 🪦 I would sell the boxes and the bus and buy a service truck with tool body.

I got a really good deal on both the boxes and the bus and have way less in it than a service truck. Plus people actually slow down and move over for a bus with flashing lights. Anyone who has worked from a service truck on the side of a highway knows no one slows down or moves over.

I've got a Koken 3/8 that is my absolute favorite. Next to that are my Tone Compact and regular bodys, I've got 7 different of those. I've also got 6 or 7 Icon ratchets. I use the Tone compact ratchets to work on my atv stuff. They're just the smallest ratchets I've ever seen while still being very usable. You should check out the Koken Zeal sockets too. They're really low profile and great for working on bikes and atv's.

I like and own all Snap-on handle styles. I like the Matco soft grip too, but I only own one. I like the Armstrong steel handle and the SK 72 tooth round head steel handles. The SK handle shaft is delightfully thin. The round knurling isn't pretty, but it is functional. I don't like the shape of the Matco steel handles, but I only own one. I like options. I have experienced no soft grip deterioration on my large inventory of Snap-on ratchet handles or on my one Matco. I have seen beat-up Snap-on soft grip ratchet handles. I don't abuse my tools. Others must not care much to destroy them so badly.

i agree that not every tool has to be name brand, harbor fright has very decent and a very well warrentied items. the only issue ive come across is when you need to warrenty out your HF tool, you have to go to the store, so what i know some people do is buy 2 of the same tool so you have a backup and once it needs to be warrantied, get all your tools together and warrenty out all of them at the same time... now thats only good advice if you live miles away from the closest HF.. anyways, good video and keep up with the content!!
