As a stepmom, I am it can be an even more complicated journey, with divided loyalties and a constantly shifting family dynamic. But here’s the thing - it’s okay to have mixed feelings. It’s okay to say, "This is hard, and sometimes I don’t feel like I signed up for this." Your emotions are valid. If you're open to it, maybe focusing on small, positive connections with the children or finding moments that feel fulfilling in your own way can help balance the tough times. But I also respect that everyone’s experience is different, and for some, that might not come easily. Either way, your feelings deserve space and understanding. @@TheBonusMom Well said. For me there is no reason to have any connections with children because I would never put myself into a situation with children involved in my nor my spouses life. That is a deal breaker. I may deal with grandkids that I never babysit of a future partner (I have no grandkids even on the horizon) but I would never deal with a partner having kids that were not adults. I really appreciate your words very much, you are right I am self aware.
