Great review! I own this bike, and besides lack of highway weight and passing power, I find its only limitations have been my skill level. It starts up every time and is willing and able to go most anywhere.

How is the TFT in the rain? Is it waterproof? I think I’m gonna go after the AS model. I have the Rebel 1100T. The DCT is so smooth. Same power plant as the AT. No issues with cruise

Put stock foot pegs on and the shifter will work fine with your boots. Common problem when guys put running board sized foot pegs on a dirt bike...

Great informative video! I picked up a 2024 Africa Twin DCT ES (traded my 2018 for it) on Friday (9/27/24), and I love it. It is my third Africa Twin that I've owned. I also have a KTM 1290 SAR, and a Vulcan Voyager, but I am getting rid of the KTM, because the AT does everything I need. My only problem is that the US models of the AT no longer come with crash bars and center stands, etc. like the previous ones, so that added another 3K. It may have been 3K more anyway with those accessories, but its just the hassle and waiting for them to come in. By the way, I am in Albuquerque too.

There are many Trail wing tires the 301/302 are not name sakes. For how long they last and the traction they are great! I’ve done it all snow rain mud sand road and I continue to buy these.

Nice review....thanks. My wife and I have been dual sporting for almost 15 years and here little Honda 230 has finally given up. I'm looking at the XT as a replacement and your perspectives were very useful. Now I just need to find one for sale. :)

I will add... That KTM, Ducati, other Italian bikes are disqualified for world travel... No dealers. You go in the middle of Peru and think you will find a KTM or Ducati dealer -- good luck. Only Honda, BMW and Yamaha are realistic for dealers around the world. I will add that in all my travels, my BMW's have never broken down to where I was in trouble... I suspect Honda is the same and one main reason for me to look at Honda as an option... Safety knowing that they are made to work all the time... Italian and KTM's are built for looks IMHO... Never see one on world travel -- and if so, they are at the side of the road waiting on parts...

Man, such a great review. Really, you nailed it. Most reviews are superficial and from riders who dont use the bike as much. Ok, my specific use case is that I have taken a BMW R1200GSA from Miami to Ushuaia, Argentina and a F850GSA from Miami to Thailand. Crossed America (on road) a zillion times.. In fact, I am going from Texas to Ohio next week for about a week -- just taking my time. But I plan on going back to Mexico, Central America and South America again so I have been hunting... Mainly to save weight from my GSA's. I cant find a GOAT. I need cruise control on those long rides and comfort. But I also get stuck in mud and shit sand and shit... But that is only 10% of the time -- still, alone with weight, its sucks. The AT with DCT seems amazing except weight. So I need to think that through... Same weight as the bikes I tried to leave behind... Cant find another bike that fits my needs though. Any thoughts? After all my adventures, I am still an average off-road rider so dropping in middle of Kazakstan mountains on heavy gravel is normal for me. Stalling on super steep uphill mountains where I have to stop and go happens although I have had a manual bike for 20 years and its second nature... DCT seems like a dream. Still thinking about AT 2024 Sport with 19" wheels as an option... BTW: Just drove through NM by car last month from El Paso to top into Colorado... Great place... Especially McGinns Pistachio... Been a bunch of times.

I’ve traveled this road hundreds of times I’m one of those guys out there shooting two times a month on Saturday. I take my two young boys the whole reason I wanna buy Yamaha 250 so that I can explore that more. Your channel is pushing me over the edge to go get one live in Bernalillo, there’s so many options. I didn’t know if the 250 had enough power to do what I wanted to. I think you made me a believer. After I caught my wife with another man I’m trying to recover the things. I love as a young kid and she took away from me wouldn’t let me do riding shooting and camping. I think I’m gonna be binge watch this channel.

Thank you so much for that excellent presentation. You covered a lot of real-world issues. I'm currently looking for an adventure style bike as my wrists are hurting riding my VFR 800 ( and that's with bar risers 😢). I have narrowed my next bike to the AT or Suzuki's 1050 DE and will not touch anything European ( even though I live there) as there are too many reliability issues with their overly complicated tech.....which you definitely don't want in remote areas. Greetings from Ireland.😊

I have been racing and riding for 50 years. I got this bike mainly for hitch carrying behind an RV. It has served so many purposes beyond that! Great review. I like the low seat height for tooling around town. I had a street legal WR250 in the past but it was way too tall. I have had a DR650 and enjoyed the extra power however that comes at a cost: Money and extra Lbs.

The revolver shifter is Really Good. I thought the stock shifter was too short. Not sure how high the revolver would go. But, it gives you more room for your boots.

As a CO resident, I really appreciate your commentary as a fellow XT250 owner. Ignore the haters. For the record, I've owned a K650, GS800, GS310, TW200, and ultimately settled on this bike as the perfect one. If it's good enough for Rambo, it's good enough for me!

Thanks for the informative and great video. Definitely know what to purchase now. I do have one clarification question though. Do you pair the headset to the phone or to the bike? And if you pair it to the bike you get all your Android auto functions through the headset?

With only 168 now 169 subscribers, you have excellent editing. You might be a little harsh on the $100 boot as buckles can be replaced. Replace the buckle, break them in, and give an update in 6 months. Obviously, there are better boots. Some just can't afford the best but still want to be protected. If the buckles break while riding, that would be an issue.

I just really don’t get the point of DCT on this type of bike. Even when people talk about why they like it, all they really say is “it’s great and every time it’s not you can override it” Almost everything people who like it talk about is compensating for it. At best, it’s better in stop and go traffic. That’s about it.
