It must be the hardest job in the world being a Harley Davidson designer . Your brief : Make it better but keep it the same . There are so many bits on this bike that remind me of my 2012 Dyna !

I have a 1984, also. In the process of restoring to original. Need help with saddlebag mounts and how they bolt on. Would you please send me picture of the their saddlebag brackets with the saddlebags removed so I can mount mine correctly? Would also love an inside pic of the right side saddlebag.

This is the true Harley Potato, Potato sound. Newer bikes are more like Rutabaga, Rutabaga...

I have one too. Someone said below that there were only like 400 plus made....neat. I bought a 77 AMF sportster new in 77 and ended up buying this 85 from a farmboy up in north dakota.. i have always had to explain this bike to HD shops or aftermarket guys when I go to get part....especailly pipes. you have a nice set of straights but how do i score a set of non-stock pipes but not straight...straights attrct too much attention from the "heat" for me. Also, where are these 4 stars...

True last year shovelheads are denoted by the 4-stars punched into the motor. Those motors had evo crankshafts, the models were known as FLHX because the X stood for "Extra" as in using the extra left over shovel parts. When the shovelhead cranks were used up, the factory started using the evo cranks. These bikes were wet diaphragm clutch belt drive drive trains.

Thanks!! A lot of the parts were re-chromed in efforts to keep it all original. I also found a lot of misc replacement parts on J&P Cycles. Paint was done locally in Austin, TX (Texas Custom Choppers).

I have a 1984 FLHX Electra Glide Special Edition with Belt Drive and the 1340 Shovel head. From what I can find there were only 467 made - mine is #454. Mine has even MORE Chrome and stock goodies from the original purchaser. I must say that it is not as shiny as yours though... Great job!!

1985 is the first year of belt drive.. 1984 was the last year of shovel and the first year of Evo. I have one of each.

I just bought a 1984 FLHS Electra Glide Sport that's original with belt drive. What makes you say only in 1985 belt drives were released?
