LBJ was the luckiest politician in American history. He was HANDED the 1948 Texas Senate election, which was stolen for him, and then he was handed AGAIN the 1960 election, which put him in the White House.

My ancestors recieved a royal land grant in 1755 for 150 acres in St.George Parish now in Screven County, Georgia. Twenty years later the Revolutionary War began. And after the Revolution one ancestor helped write the first constitution for the new state of Georgia. He sucessfully argued to the delegates that even slaves had the right to asseemble to worship God as they chose. An important right for slaves as the church would play a key role later in emancipation and the struggle for civil rights for decades.

I was a student of Dr Vipperman in ~91. He turned on history like a switch with me. I had always dreaded history class as it was just date memorization but Dr Vipperman changed that. I have never looked at history the same. :)

The reason I searched for ‘Lemuel Penn’ is because my cousin was engaged to Lemuel Penn Jr. She brought him to Scotland (she is mixed race African American and Scottish) I remember Lemuel Penn Jr very fondly. He was a pilot. His father would’ve been extremely proud.

Just hearing about this. WOW. This brave man served his country. He went across seas dodging bullets with his fellow soldiers... only to be killed by bullets here in this hometown country. What a tragedy. RIP Lemuel Penn.

During the 1958-59 school year in Santa Monica, CA at Roosevelt Elementary School, Rod Serling was the PTA President. At the fall school carnival, he came dressed in his iconic Twilight Zone suit/tie. It is one of the few times in my life where there was an intersection of TV and real life.

Thanks for this brief but very informative review of a great but neglected author. I just bought Morley's "Powder of Sympathy" at a local used book store - opened randomly to a page in the middle and found some real spark in the writing.

It's highly likely FDR was misdiagnosed with polio. From Wikipedia: "A 2003 peer-reviewed study of Roosevelt's paralytic illness, using three diagnostic methods - pattern recognition, reconstructing the pathogenesis, and Bayesian analysis - favored a diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) over poliomyelitis"

I have read almost every book and article on Emmett Till "BoBo"! Cultures were different back then, compared to today. I have seen many pictures on Emmett not printed in books. The crime was sickening, because even though the killers have all died, witnesses too. But years ago, I don't know if it was 60 minutes or dateline, but they found Carolyn Bryant still alive. When She was interviewed she said, "WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE NOW, EVERYONE'S DEAD". She owned up to saying she made it all up, a lie! You can name streets, highways, parks, libraries after Emmett. But justice has not been done. There were several black men in the back of the truck to hold Emmett down. They drove into a barn, and a witness outside said you could hear Emmett screaming, "MAMA, MAKE THEM STOP, OH JESUS, IT HURTS, MAMA MAMA"! I cannot read enough on Emmett Till. His mother was so proud of his teeth, they were beautiful. She said when she finally got to see her son, every tooth was missing, his tongue was swelled up and hanging out the mouth, and one eye was missing, the other eye hanging out. One of his female cousins said that people could not believe how Emmett looked so horrible in the casket. But the funeral director went out of his way to fix him up to look good knowing it was an open casket funeral. Can you imagine how he looked before he was FIXED up! Get a book from your library and read about Emmett Till and his amazing, strong mother.

I visited Savannah this year truly for the first time and fell in love... I heard the name Oglethorpe a lot, and remember it from early US history in school. Interestingly, also General Greene, the namesake of my city in NC, all in Savannah, the apex of Georgia. Georgia's got some amazing history, I really want to go back as soon as I can!

You do also know that Southern slavery was never at risk? There was a Constitutional Amendment in the works that would have protected Southern slavery forever. Are you aware that only 5% of the South were slave holders?

Why aren't the other 3 Cornerstones of the Southern Constitution ever mentioned? Little Alex was too caught up in trying to make the first Cornerstone sound elequent? Because abolitionists news media didn't think it was worth mentioning? Sure there is the one Cornerstone mentioned but there are always 3 other equally important Cornerstones. People also never mention that Lincoln also held the same scientific idea that the "negro" was an inferior race. It is never mentioned that Alex explained in his speech that slavery was intended to be of benefit to the "negro" race not because of hatred.

Probably because southerners like to deny that part about slaves.
@michaelmoody3737
@michaelmoody3737 2 жыл бұрын
@@kanepain0819 but Southerners don't deny that there were slaves or that they weren't a reason for secession. They deny that the war was over slavery which it wasn't. In order for the war to have been over slavery the North would have had to be fighting to end it, they absolutely were not and there are more historical text that prove that than there are that prove the South seceded to protect it.

In 1872, he went into business for himself as "John B. West, Publisher and Book Seller", reprinting legal treatises, publishing legal forms, and producing a much-appreciated index to the Minnesota statutes... not to mention the discrepencies in the republished versions of these cases.. andthe judges mentioned , whom didnt even exist at this time.. SECOND: THE AUTHOR OF THE RECREATIONAL STORY Tom Henderson Wells, PUT MORE SPINS ON THE STORY AND THAN A WASHING MACHINE.. ALONG WITH ZORA NEAL AND THE OTHER FALSE REPORTING AUTHORS ..
