What if the reason why I'm overqualified is I demand more pay because of my experience? How do I get hired then?

I also hear that sometimes if an employer contacts references it’s just to verify someone worked there and and I also hear a person’s previous employer often times is only instructed to disclose the minimum like job title, pay and dates of employment.

more and more employers don't want to give references but many still do. You can still get some valuable information from a reference.

I spoke to a female manager when looking for a job, and she gave me an on-the-spot interview. Now, we hit it off great, almost too well, as it seemed that she may have been flirting with me. I didn't get the job, but I wondered if I had, what she would expect of me (like would she want me to stay after work).

The best thing to do is assume you DIDN'T get the job, no matter how well you did. Then keep looking. If you don't have it, you have already moved on. If you get it, you haven't got your hopes up unnecessarily, so it will be a nice surprise. It is always better to hope for the worst and get the best, then vice versa. Also, if you land more than one job offer, you are in the box seat, and can pick the job that bests suits you. You don't owe them anything. .

I think, screw applying for a job. I think the best job is where you offer a service direct to clients. You are your own boss, work your own hours, and only have to answer to the customers (which you have to in any job regardless), but you are the boss, and as long as you provide good service, and are offering a service that will always be needed, you can do really well. I know three people who have done this ( one a builder, another a mechanic, and a third one fixes computers), and they clean up, and are constantly working. I wish I knew a service I could offer, so that I could do this, instead of dealing with disinterested interviewers.

A lot of interviewers want too much, have too high expectations, and some even border on having a God complex. I wonder if employers really want the best worker, or an adequate worker who they can get for cheaper, and not have to pay as much. Businesses are crying out for workers, so should cut the BS and hire someone who can do the job and is good to have around. All the other garbage is not important when you need someone ASAP.

Superb ⭐ Mam after getting hired as fresher what should an employee do to impress the boss & earn promotion without being seen as desperate for attention ? Also is it a good choice to climb the corporate ladder when our aim is to stay away from larger responsibilities & have work life balance ? So that our time is saved & spent with family..

I had a phone interview today. I thought it went well but at the end she said "we are doing first interviews this week and will have 2nd interviews next week, you would be contacted if you are moving forward. I knew at that moment I wasn't going to be asked back...disappointed...

Not necessarily. Sometimes, if you are the 1st candidate, they want to see what else is out there and will answer that to hedge their bets. Hopefully you set the bar high and get called back back. 🙂

If you are over fifty, do not go back more then fifteen years of employment. No more than three or at most four jobs on the resume.

My interview ended with: "I am going to be very honest with you. We are very selective when it come to our candidate in both skills and profile. the selection team don't always agree about one candidate. I need you to know that. We will contact you to tell you about our decision in less than a week. " Just tell me i didn't get the job right now jackass.

I agree with a commenter about short interviews....when you are right for the job and the interview sails along with rapport and covering enough important territory,, sometimes a 15 minute interview is all that is needed..the client and the candidate "know" its a fit.....and why blather on with a process neither one really enjoys.. long drawn out interviews can be such a waste of time...people make up their minds very quickly about who they "like".

The advice about learning from past job experience helps provide applicable skills to the current job an applicant is applying for. I often ask myself those questions, even for a job different from what I'm applying for. That is how transferrable job skills clicked for me without feeling unqualified. Thank you for the sound advice, Dawn.

I had my last interview and I didn't get any of the points. The guy from the interview was really rude at me, and he told me "I don't even know why you applied to this job, you don't match with what we are asking for, but here we are" and he was not intersted on what I was saying, he was like "Im wasting my time with you on this interview". I feel I'm not gonna get the job.

Ahh so spot on. I just had a 45 minute interview when it's supposed to last for only 30 minutes, and the HR ended the call by saying that she will be sending me an invitation for a line interview afterwards. A sure sign that you passed the interview is when they give you a clear message that you would be proceeding to the next step. Another thing that was relatable here is when the interviewer asks you if you have any other pending applications at the other firms. I thought my interview with my hiring manager didn't go well especially when she asked me about my applications elsewhere. I thought it was a bad sign bec I thought they wanted me to try other firms instead T___T but the next day, I received a call from the HR that i passed the application process and that I should be expecting an offer in a few days.

If they ask you about other jobs, say that you have other interviews that week. It will force them into fast-tracking you and you getting an answer straight away, before you accept another offer.
