Here in 2024 as the father who's blamed for the wasted years. I've acknowledged the hurt I caused. I have apologized as sincerely as I know how. I've learned, continue to learn, and do all I know to do to change for the better. But we barely speak. If there was a way for her to have peace without letting go of her bitterness toward me, I'd tell her to do that. I earned it fair and square. I just want her to heal.

I watched as my then friend(now boyfriend) fought so much with his dad, such animosity, but I was also there in the last 4 or 5 months as his dad was dying of cancer, and how close they got. All the animosity, and anger just vanished. You realize how trivial small arguments over small things are.

brilliant. epic. waiting for the bass drum. the rhythm guitar being dragged along behind. yet it all meets at the corners. the most almost intentionally sloppy effort that ends up meeting all maths. these cats have something special. love to them.

No bro it’s not about “people complaining so much . . . “ it’s about being so overwhelmed by thinking about all the pain in the world that u close off and get numb in order to cope. The cork popping at the beginning might reference using alcohol to cope… but also this was the first track on the album; so the cork pop might just mean “hooray let’s start the album”…

@@nunyastinkinbusiness My father is a narcissist. He tormented me my whole life. I spent so many nights as a little kid crying myself to sleep. I spent so many years hateful and angry. Now I just feel sorry for him. He will never know the warmth of love and true friendship. I never thought I’d forgive him for what he did to me and my mother but as I get closer to thirty the more I see. This song has always held deep meaning. There is another one that I listened to in high school that perfectly described it all. “Which to bury, us or the hatchet?”
