The Four Gods is probably a reference to the Chinese deities that take the form of tiger, dragon, bird, and tortoise. I've seen them referenced in SMT/Persona as high level demons, and I think they represent seasons. I'm not all that versed in it, though.

That's fair, I just think the OG was too broken with some of its mechanics, so it was very hard to pick up for a first playthrough. The pixel remaster definitely fixes a lot of that though!

@@redweirdvods Well the OG was also a Nes game so it does not have the polish the later versions have(My first time with II was on the ps1), I seen gameplay of fan english roms of the nes game, and I really dont see how it was either worse or better graphic wise vs that of 1. The level system from 2 would later be used for other rpgs, 2 did start that.

@greek1237 that’s true, and I think later RPGs used it very well! I played a translated version of FF2 on NES and I liked some of it, but I just found it too difficult to level up characters evenly. But, that said, I love that the FF series always tries different things and likes to innovate, and some of it works better than others. It’s why I’ll always love this series

Status effects do not last the battles. However, for a change, status effects are really insanely OP. Nice to know that stuff actually changes the dynamic of fights in a hurry.

Funny thing I've figured out: if you fight the big dual horned dudes, and they are all that remains on screen, you can summon Valefor. Since she is flying, she is technically long range and can't be hit by those dudes. She can take turn after turn and just press X to win.
