The brother in the brown jacket is having a time! I doubt these brothers and sisters knew just how beautifully they sang these songs. In 2025, their singing brings back fond memories of bygone days. My uncle, an old school Free Will Baptist preaching deacon, passed away yesterday and one of my memories was traveling to his church hours away and our entire family would sing like this at his church for homecomings, etc. Good days. I tell my kids and wife about those days often.

People would call Brother Mullins the "man who sang all over himself". He sure felt what he sang about.

The harmony. 🎶 🎵 I listen to these almost daily now. I'm not agaisnt progress. BUT one area where I think we should have kept it simple was church. Singing songs like this with beautiful harmony and joy.

I agree completely with you. I would much rather hear the harmony of a group than to hear the music.

Love watching these videos. Some of the best examples of Appalachian mountain church singing. I connect to my car audio and play it while driving. We sang this song a lot growing up in our church. It's not one of the more popular songs, so when I found it I was thrilled. I love when plain people blend their voices to sing in church, not for show, but for fellowship and worship.

I'm almost 60 and I have never seen a Primitive Baptist wedding. I don't know why. Most people I know get married in another venue not at the church. Congratulations to the couple.

Hey there Im a Missionary Baptist but we're all going to the same heaven. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart for the work you are doing this old way needs to be preserved for our children good preaching is hard to find these days. So called preachers these days have college degrees but the Holy Ghost is usually not within 10 miles of there pre-written sermons and the pastor gets a salary? Are you kidding me. I just can't get behind that. Preachers where I come from have regular jobs and they preach for the Lord not for a paycheck. We take up an offering for the man of God but its not meant to buy him a big house and a fancy car. Forgive my rant but my point is your doing a wonderful thing here keeping a record of how church was meant to be, so truly I am grateful 🙏 thank you

Did this guy preach in Morristown TN in the 80s its almost gotta be him. I heard his son became a preacher my dad was a preacher at a white Missionary Baptist church and I remember a black preacher named Ernest would show up sometimes and was so kind it was as if the Holy Ghost just radiated from him.

I would like to comment on your singing, not to discourage, or make fun of in any way. And to let you know, I am from the Church of Christ, just so you know my back ground. There are ways to improve your singing. Having a good song leader goes a long way to aiding a congregation sing better. My own view is, having a good song leader, is worth his weight in preachers. As individuals, knowing what part you sing is important. If one is not sure, have a friend who knows and sings the parts well, listen to you and tell you what part would best suit your voice. Organizing by parts can be helpful also, as it will let you hear others singing your part, much easier, and help with harmonizing. There are a lot of groups/congregations and individuals, who have recorded many hymns Acapella style and made them available online, just as you have here. Listening to, and singing along with those video's as practice can help a lot, to learn a song. I don't mean just learning the tune, but also the pitch, and tempo. I hope you will take this as constructive criticism, but your pitch and timing was way out, and you came across as very mechanical, particularly the men. I know at the end of the day, not everyone is a good singer, and being a good singer is not what is important in worship, it is the heart of the worshiper toward God that matters, and that one is worshiping in the manner God has instructed. But there is also nothing wrong with striving to be better.
@kimdrobinette6 ай бұрын
I agree that is is good to learn the parts and the pitch and to have good harmony. I myself am trying to learn this and have been for a while. I have more of a lead voice but from time it is necessary for me to sing alto. Though I sing the alto part I still have the lead voice. I keep trying to learn but as of right now the Lord just hasn't revealed it to me. But I'm thankful He has given me what I know so far. And you said it right when you said that is the heart of the worshiper toward God that matters. And I am striving to do better in the singing. But there is nothing more important than the feeling I have when I sing, whether I have it right or not. Thank you for your thoughts on this matter.
