Ok, in the video the words say after 2 days dissolve 140g of epsom salts in 100 ml water. But the video clearly shows a 2000ml beaker full to the 2000ml line. ????? Please forgive me if this is something real simple I should be picking up on.

The shape of the crystal directly relates to the arrangement of the ions at the atomic level. The ratio of the size of the large crystal to the relevant ions is of the same order as the ratio of the size of the Earth to that of the large crystal.

Depends how you look at it. They are synthetic, but made of the same "stuff" as the natural mineral chalcanthite on a chemical level.

I did this in the fifth grade, as a curious side-show to my actual Science Fair project, which was copper electroplating. There is a big problem with messing about with copper sulfate solution: how do you dispose of it safely?? You can't pour it down the drain, you can't put it in a storm drain, at most you could maybe pour it on the cracks of your driveway and sidewalk to stop plants from growing there. 😱☠

So does this make pure salt crystal or does it grow a different type of salt crystal altogether? Do you make the same ratio of crystal to water when doing water changes? Please teach me more about this! I need to understand for several reasons. So I can explain a few things to my husband about science and help pull him out of the fiction he has been entertained by recently. ❤ Please help ❤ also, if i can play lab tech for a minute and grow some crystals that might be a good one for me to practice so I can teach my daughter. ❤

This crystal was made from Epsom salt, hence it is still Epsom salt. Yes, the same ratio is used when changing the solution. If you want even more info, check out my blog post linked in the description of this video :)

Theoretically, could you grow a crystal using a kidney stone as a seed (calcium phosphate and/or calcium oxalate).... ?? Your videos are so much fun... It made me smile to see this is something you do with your son

I'm having problems with growing the seed crystal in a petri dish. I either get flat big crystals that look like triangles with flatened corners or i get many, small and densely packed crystals. I'm not entirel sure what may be the problem
@the_crystalverse8 күн бұрын
Try pouring more solution into the petri dish. A deeper solution might help reduce the flatness. In general, it doesn't really matter how the seeds look, as long as they are transparent. When you tie them up, they will slowly transform into an octahedron as they grow.

How long will that last on a shelf in the living room?
@the_crystalverse8 күн бұрын
Depends on how dry the air is at your place. If the air is relatively humid, possibly years. If the air is dry, the surface will start turning white within a few days, unless you protect it with some kind of varnish or nail polish.

hello, very interesting video. A quick question, have you tried using different vessels to grow the crystal? Also what do think the effect would be to grow one of thee crystals in quartz stone vase? One other variable would be to introduce sound during the growth process, some like one of the Solfeggio frequencies?

Lovely crystals. You should grow a crystal from an appropriate mix of Chrome Alum (deep purple) and regular Alum depending on colour required.
