Sanggar Anak Alam, or SALAM, was established in 1988 in Lawen Village, Pandanarum District, Banjarnegara, Central Java, Indonesia. In its development, SALAM metamorphosed into the ANANE29 youth community until now. On June 20, 2000, SALAM was revived by Sri Wahyaningsih and Toto Rahardjo in Nitiprayan Village, Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia. According to parent Yoga Pratama, the concept of learning at Sanggar Anak Alam encourages children to learn in a fun and unencumbered way. Students at Sanggar Anak Alam Yogyakarta are given the opportunity to learn many things, without limits, as children. Learning can start with things that interest them. All learning is designed systematically but freely, so that students can maximise their potential. It is very inspiring and opens up the view that learning can come from anywhere, even from small things around us. Sanggar Anak Alam Yogyakarta founder Sri Wahyaningsih believes that basic education is an important foundation for laying down systems and attitudes of thinking that are built from childhood. This is done to understand the potential and problems, as well as the reality of life, for future provision. Therefore, research is an opening gate for students to learn various skills, ranging from reading, writing, calculating, analysing, and communicating to manners of mingling with the surrounding community. When a student chooses a research theme, that's what he or she will explore throughout the semester. Depending on the level of education, students at Sanggar Anak Alam are taught until they fully understand the basic concepts before moving on to more complex lessons or materials. Students in grades 1-3, for example, are encouraged to master the concepts of reading, writing, and counting. These skills are utilised all the way to the next level of education and in their daily lives. Then, for students in grades 4-6, learning begins to increase. This can be seen in the elaboration or ability of students to convey information they know in a narrative. Primary school students have developed more complex skills. Some students, in fact, love to write and have even created their own books. The ideas for these books usually come from small things around them. In addition, these creative ideas can also lead to a lot of research and discussion in the classroom. During the process of finding data and informants for research materials, the children will regularly and intensively convey the progress or extent of the research process. At that moment, there is also a discussion between students and facilitators as a form of input as well as strengthening concepts. Not only that, the children also learn from their peers' research when the process is presented in front of the class. After the semester-long research process is over, students will have a scheduled presentation of their research. During this presentation, students will creatively convey the results of their research in front of their friends, facilitators, and parents. The form of presentation is also very creative, depending on the type of research they do; it can be in the form of a talk show, a PowerPoint presentation, a workshop, a drama performance, or a video screening. Pasar Senin Legi is a routine activity that is always organised with various themes. In this activity, children will be free with their creativity in doing activities like going to the market. Pasar Senin Legi is also held here, one of the learning concepts that involves students outdoors and is related to buying and selling activities in the market. The philosophy of this activity is to invite children to get to know the concept of markets, buying and selling activities, and social interactions between sellers and buyers. Students also learn various interesting themes from the market on Monday.
