Soil Conditioning means chemicals ? What chemicals do you apply ?
@bindirider Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Teresa. Wow this video is more than 10 years old and so much has changed on our farm in that time. I just viewed it again and must say I'm a little embarrassed about the amount of soil disturbance we used to have in our system. The soil conditioners are just crushed lime stone or natural gypsum, all the rest are aged chicken or sheep manure or compost. We never have used much in the way of chemicals because they seem to cause more problems than they solve, we are all about regenerative farming practices now.

The best part was the co we crop and it's mulching. Saves so much money via a vis getting mulch from outside. It will be very useful for our orchards.

Does the mustard as a biofumigant harm earth worms and other soil living fauna?
@bindirider7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, sorry the videos are old but have had little time to do new ones. mustard is a great green manure, the "biofumigant" affect is in our opinion a little overstated. however the biological effect seems to us to be the long term benefit so no it has a beneficial effect on soil flora and fauna. We have also been reducing our tillage dramatically over the past few years, in some cases no till where possible. this has helped improve the structure of our soil a lot, and made management is easier. cheers

thanks for the video's bindirider. Love the Fendt tractors, we are just starting out in our farming venture and all these videos are very useful. Are all your implements set up with the triangular quick-hitch?

too much abuse on the soil, defies the purpose.
@brandonkrause64014 жыл бұрын
I agree to some extent. That is the only thing they should try and work on. Destroying the soil profile like that so often counteracts a lot of the good management. But they are producing so much maybe it works well enough.. The crazy amount of inputs would still deliver quality crops.

Thanks mate. We use 3 different manure spreaders, the red one is 30 years old and used only for fowl manure, the blue one is a machine that spreads green waste or difficult material like sheep manure, the silver one is relativly new takes the load off the old red one.

Each post is a pipe rising out of the ground with a sprinkler on top and is the most visable part of our permenant irrigation system. We have lines set every 11.25 meters for irrigation and sub surface drainage pipes every 8 meters, so the property is full of plumbing.
