AP problems are very diverse - some may have ways of proving answers and others may not give an easy way of doing it and so the best is to ensure that you are checking each stage of your answer for correctness before proceeding to the next stage. For example, if you know beforehand that you will create two linear equations that you will need to solve, you do need to ensure that the equations that you are forming are thoroughly checked before solving as while answers that may obtain from solving systems of equations may be correct for the equations, it may also be true that they could be wrong for the overall problem.
