Government encouragement for sugar cane crops is not for its main product but for it's byproduct called alcohol which will be sold in bar shops and eventually multifold revenue in the form of taxes.

There are no alternative rich foods like meat and pulses. in the end the only thing left is cheap carbs. So a typical day starts with roti, rice and roti again at night. Then we also consume sweets or sugar straight.

Jaggery and Sugar are chemically the same thing. Both are a even split mix of Fructose and Sucrose, Jaggery just has some impurities in it.

Rather than pointing finger at fixed prices to be given to the farmers by the mills, we should need other crops to have a minimum price. That will encourage farmers to grow other crops, too.🤷🏾♂️ Sorry, if it's already there. I'm not aware of such things.

When you give higher MSP for sugar and no MSP for millets and other crops, farmers will plant more sugarcane so they can make more money.

And bankrupt ourselves subsidising even more crops. No wonder India is still a poor country with this type of thinking. Every problem has same solution - more government intervention, instead of less. (In this case: Removing MSP altogether and let the market decide the prices. Support farmers by just giving them DBT to sustain themselves in case of low earnings from farm income).

@@Kalyan-s9f my abstract point was that, the sugarcane farmers shouldn't be discouraged to grow sugarcane by reducing the benefits they get from it. Rather, they should be encouraged to go for other crops, by building them a justified market, void of the middlemen. Discouraging sugarcane cultivation means, farmers will have no crop to look forward to.

@@anuragbanerjee2879 Trying checking it and you will know why. A lot of politicians from UP, Maharashtra and other states own sugar mills. Sharad Pawar's biggest income comes from sugar. Sugar is a big reason why Indian agriculture is facing a huge water crisis. But yeah keep blaming the peopl.

But won't you agree that with higher production, the availability and accessibility of sugar is more, so we can expect greater consumption. I would say beef is a separate topic with a lot of other additional factors like food preferences of people, religion etc., plays a role.

i am a regular consumer of Indian dates. i would like to point out there is a lot of spoilage due to improper packaging when the dates are transported wholesale as i purchase from a wholesale shop. the fruits are packed in large gunny bags which allow moisture and the fruit start fermenting in no time. if the packaging is made air tight from plantation to wholesale to retail, there would be much, much better preservation of the quality of the fruit and benefit to both customer and sellers. Hope my suggestions are heeded as i am an avid consumer of Indian dates
