how would the warmth compare to the 1000 plasma?
@kaisermojica4216Ай бұрын
@@JaredandTasha unfortunately I have not experienced the warmth of 1000 plasma. 1000 fill power down would be 10% warmer if given identical amount of down fill and similar design. I have been considering it for a while but according to most articles/reviews I’ve read on the matter the $$$ cost to grams or oz of savings is not worth the price tag. I have also found that with ultralight pieces such as this and the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer the fabric and sewn through baffle construction will make the jacket less wind resistant. I find having a windshell or hardshell when it gets cold is a better investment than purchasing a $400 plus USD 1000 fill power down jacket. I am very happy with this design and because of the pullover design and lack of a fullzip and zipper pockets it is about as warm as other jackets I own like the the Cerium Lt which is 11 oz. I hope this is helpful.

The file is certainly short and I did mention it in the video that it’s not the best file, but I would certainly rather have a file if they can fit it on the nexttool mini sailor lite. I just tried the coated vs non coated version of the gerber dime and results are the same. Thanks for watching.

@kaisermojica42165 ай бұрын
This knife came from a seller in Spain actually, is there a seller in Vegas that you know? Would like to check out their ebay store. Thanks for watching.
@MrPsiman5 ай бұрын
@@kaisermojica4216 there is a guy in Vegas that sells all over the web. Most of the prices are not good for anything old or close to rare. Europe is where the best deals are for old Alox in general. not much of a fan of 91mm SAK's or cellidor knives in general. I would take 60's Alox Soldier's over anything. They have the best build quality and thickest tools. It's worth paying a little more compared to today's Alox
@MrPsiman5 ай бұрын
BTW the Alox Voyageur's aren't really rare. The cellidor versions are really rare and don't bring big money because they have not been hyped. i could name a bunch of other models as well that are super rare but have not been over hyped ,so they don't bring big money.
@MrPsiman5 ай бұрын
I saw it on ebay and still passed because of the shape of the knife and what it sold for. With that condition I would not have paid over $75 for it and that is why I didn't bid on it. I got a unused mint early 80's Cadet for $100 recently. Probably going to sell it. I don't like 84mm Alox knives and are not in the league of pre mid 80's 93mm Alox stuff. That one you have is between 79 and 83 time period. I have tried to like 84mm Alox stuff but it's just not what 93mm stuff is. 93mm stuff is so much more heavy duty and thicker better blade stock. All of my Alox is from the 60's. Soldier's and Electrician. The Voyageur has been so over hyped and it's a mediocre knife. Kind of like how Yeoman's have been over hyped and are nothing special. 60's silver Alox soldier's are probably the best bang for the buck for older SAK's and they are obtainable and not over hyped and heavy duty. I wouldn't mind having an old pre mid 80's Rancher but i don't like red and they never made them in silver in the old cross era
@kaisermojica42165 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and sharing, I think what draws people to the Alox Voyageur is the 84mm Scissors, I have only the Pioneer X in the 93mm certainly a heavier duty pocket knife for all the reasons you’ve mentioned. I like the pocketability of the 84mm Victorinox. Every collector has their own favorites. Which rare cellidors would you recommend?

Great video. The Yeoman gets a lot of praise for having pretty much all the tools of the Explorer, due mostly to the Combo tool. But the absence of the reamer/awl is always overlooked. There’s a blank backside layer on the Yeoman which I think could have housed the Awl. Too bad….
@travis12404 ай бұрын
The other thing the Yeoman is missing (but the Explorer has) is an effective "pry bar". Personally I have a Yeoman and thought I would use it all the time but I find myself reaching to put the Explorer in my pocket as a weekend puttering around the house carry. The combo tool is great for opening cans and bottles but it's no good as a pry bar (too thin) and the small screwdriver/phillips on the can opener is also sorely missed.

Many thanks for showing us this great knife. Years ago, I wrote to Victorinox asking them to produce this knife again. No answer received. Victorinox has no more innovations. They can only change the colors of the Alox annual knives.

Can the scissors from the golfer be installed in the bantam? Without modding with the 91mm scissors?
@kaisermojica42165 ай бұрын
I believe the 84mm Golfer Scissors are the identical to the scissors in the 84mm Alox Voyageur, but for the record I have not and will not be taking apart my golfer. Perhaps a reddit thread will be a better resource to be 100% sure. I often look through ebay for intact 84mm scissors on a broken 84mm knife being sold for parts.

I carried the Climber for years. Never could bring myself to pay nearly double for the compact. I recently decided I wanted to slim things down a little I put a rambler in my wallet. Started with an SD but I really like the rambler. I’m bouncing around a bit in what knife I want to carry but I know it’s going to be 84mm. I have really enjoyed carrying them. Bouncing back and forth between a Bantam Alox and a recruit. I really like that combo tool better than I thought I would but the Bantam Alox is a little too thin so I end up carrying the Recruit more. Currently waiting on a regular Bantam in the mail. Will probably end up buying a waiter too 😂.

Yeah the entire system is heavy, however its tough AF. You can compress that whole thing down to the size of a basketball, using the compression straps on the bag. They're not to be fluffy and light, they're meant to keep your ass from freezing to death. Condition your body to be able to carry a heavier load.

I firmly believe the Leatherman Squirt PS4 stands out as the ultimate pocket mini multitool ever crafted. Unfortunately, I lost mine a month after it was discontinued, which felt like a real tragedy. I've since switched to the Gerber Dime for my everyday carry multitool. It's decent enough, but it doesn't quite match up to the Squirt. One unique feature I really miss and can't seem to find elsewhere is the Squirt's excellent combination of a metal file and saw.

Aren’t they a bit pricey for saks? I did modify some saks for myself and it doesn’t have to do with labor costs because they’re easy to modify. It’s the donor knives/parts that cost the most. Frankly I don’t feel it’s worth the cost for a mediocre steel edc knife that doesn’t even lock and also there are other options out there that cover the same toolset. I think it’s people’s obsession to retired models or the hype that some youtubers push on specific models.
