I think most who make demonstrations of such instruments need help. They wallow in the ugliest and least attractive of the sounds and rub the listener's nose in it. That is one of the reasons Van Ann's presentation is so superior and so much more helpful.

The fact is acoustic pianos are just not practical for most people who want to learn/play. Cost, maintenance, space and volume are all major issues for families with children neighbours (other family members who god forbid want to do something quietly elsewhere) digital pianos have opened piano learning to thousands who otherwise would never have a chance to learn. Much like uprights did 100 years ago. Let’s face it given the money and the space we’d all have a grand piano anyway 😂

Cost of tuning an acoustic piano is about $135 (national average in 2021). You should tune at least once per year, but really twice per year (one at each major seasonal change) is recommended minimum. Unless you are a professional pianist, a top quality digital piano from a major manufacturer should suffice. Operating costs of digital are much lower, and digital piano does not go out of tune. Not to mention, much easier to physically move a digital piano.
