I've seen and experienced one of my children in a charter school using the DI. I watched the states public schools shrink and a waiting list grow to over 1,000 students trying to get into a better environment where students learn, and teachers teach. America is on the verge of embracing Direct Instruction into this Golden Age of Education.

With President Trump's pushing education back to the states, I expect Direct Instruction to explode into popularity in order to compete for money funding for a better quality education for our youth. DI has been hidden long enough.

Yet teachers everywhere still talk about this type of nonsense. It doesn't even make basic logical sense. Zig has gotten it right for decades.

Its really hard to believe this only has 1.5K views after 5 years. Ah well, true genius is often not recognized , particularly in this day and age.

I have quoted his name in a number of my blog posts. Despite many readers including a teacher with a Master's of Education who have commented on my posts saying their children have benefitted from my blog and my book many are still skeptical that a majority of kids who can't read are simply shut-down kids who can easily be taught to read. Google my name and read my posts.

Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons is the book that uses the same technique. Costs $16 new and $8 used. Worked for us.

In california, a teacher like zig would get fired for his radical education views and practice possibly not kissing up to the principal and caring more the students success then political comparison among elementary schools.

I just found out today about Mr. Engelmann's passing. He and I had a bit of a correspondence in the past decade beginning with a letter of thanks I initiated to him as a new homeschool mommy. I know that my daughter is not unique in owing him gratitude for some of the things taught, I know that there are thousands of children that probably have a similar story. Know that this kid of mine will make him smile wherever he is. She is whizbang Zig. Thanks.

@katherinekatiehunter72372 жыл бұрын
They are typically used as a special education curriculum. You have to move fast and be expressive, or some children can lose interest. Definitely more effect than the whole language “Dick & Jane” Readers, lol. Guided Reading is also effective as long as you make sure students levels are assessed correctly.

smart kids, a good method, or both. Hard to say, but the method ought to be given a spin in a study session in the 21st century.
