It's amazing how small those have gotten. I remember the first set ever put into production by Hurst, the jaws were 36" long titanium arms and the body was the size of a 5 gallon bucket and weighed about 75 lbs before filled with oil. To do that maneuver we had to chain the dash to the front frame and pull the dash up with a chain stretched over the hood. You'd never have gotten that tool in that space.

Great video. Figuring out what to pack for camping and getting it on/in your vehicle definitely has it’s challenges. I am still trying to dial in my camping setup, but I have a 6’4” bed and a crew cab so a lot more space than with your setup. Kudos to getting what you needed for camping on your rig. Hopefully I will get out your direction sometime and run some trails (probably next year).

@@monette44 great question, working on a few changes right now. First of all a 32 gallon fuel tank is going in place of the 20 gallon tank for more range, I’m going to all analogue gauges instead of a digital dash..for more reliability. Swapping to 5.38 gears instead of the 4.88’s that gives me the low end crawling torque and control with no problems on the highway because I have the 4l80 transmission with the overdrive. Lastly…I’m sticking with the 42’s they just work!

I used to take an 85 Toyota PU up on those trails along the Alpine Loop, Imogene being the highest elevation. I had problems with vapor locking and found that adding a little ATF to the gas, wrapping fuel lines with foil where they get close to heat sources, and leaving the gas cap loose seemed to help. Even with all that, I couldn't get to the top of Imogene. The alcohol in modern gas makes it even worse. Poke some holes in the cap of a water bottle and use creek water to shower cool parts. Have fun.

Why did you use ford shit in a Chevy???
@85Crawler
@85Crawler Ай бұрын
@@charlescox6608 couple of reasons, the 05 and up super duty axle’s are thicker and wider in comparison to the king pin 60 that came in the Chevy pickups from this era. Also running the super duty 60 gave me the option to run Reid Knuckles so I could squeeze the 1550 u joints on my axle shafts…I know my driving style is heavy on the right foot so I need all the help/strength I can get. The Magnum box from off-road design is a bolt up option on a ford np205…which has the big 90mm bearing already in it. The Chevy np205 has to be drilled and tapped and machined to fit the 90mm bearing. So it saved me a lot of build time as well.. going with the super duty 60.
