Certainly he is. He lives in Florida with his wife Nancy. I'll try to upload a recording of the 2 of them together.

Certainly sexual behavior is your own autonomy. However, imagine if someone uses sex the way you use alcohol. You can see the need for a system of sobriety.

Great question. Because sobriety in SA is not abstaining from healthy sex. Sobriety is freedom from selfish lust. Sex with self, or a partner other than a spouse. In a committed marriage, each spouse seeks to give rather than take, and in this way both partners receive. This is love not lust.

Lust is not of God
@spiritualawakening2675Ай бұрын
In SA we believe selfish lust is the opposite of God's intention. It's a lust that injures ourselves and others. But when done lovingly and spiritually it is God's intention for humans to be sexual. We believe what the AA big book says: "We remember always that our sex powers ae God-given and therefore good, neither to be used lightly or selfishly nor to be despised and loathed..."

Hello kindred brother of salaciousness! Many sorry’s; I will be of nay today. I was a member of SA in Southern California for the decade of the 2000’s. It didn’t work for me, though I duly worked it. Those I knew who had substantial sobriety-including my sponsor-left the program as well. Here were the matters of mutter: Both SA and the White Book were obsessed with sex and with the problem. Guys would come to the meetings, receive a head full of sex, then act out on the way home. There was the odd practice of reading one’s sex history, which was called one’s “first step.” But reading a sexalogue was not germane to Step One. I knew Roy Kuljian and we would email now and then. I told him my thoughts on ‘first steps.’ He told me a story where he was in a meeting where a fellow was reading his story, and Roy said “he was re-living it! I couldn’t get out of there fast enough!” Still that practiced continued. In another email, he lightly dissed AA. Yet AA was where he got sexually sober. In my grand-sponsor’s SA home group, they did a group conscience that eliminated the AA Big Book from their meeting. Thereafter, every member there lost their sobriety. It was hard for me to leave SA; I had so many dear friends there. Cheers, and God bless.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience in SA. It seems you were here in what the Big Book coined "the flying blind period" (fwd to 2nd edition). Thankfully a lot has changed and groups all over the country have many members with decades of sexual sobriety. But I do agree that SA and its culture is certainly not for all types. For example some sexually compulsive are more OCD than addicts and the culture of getting honest and shedding light on their darkest shame seems to backfire. Those folks might to well to seek out a thorough assessment with a neurologist or psychiatrist who understands OCD and addiction. Many are also on the spectrum for aspergers and autism and don't do well in group settings. Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

Looking forward. Just like a true drug addict or alcoholic cannot simply choose to stop (without help) a true sexaholic is without power to stop and stay stopped. Over time our lives become more and more unmanageable. The 12 steps are definitely spiritual in nature, and also incredibly theraputic. In SA we don't just "stay sober", we learn how to be sober and happy. Something we couldn't figure out how to do before. Non sexaholics can never really understand what total powerlessness feels like. Regular non sexaholic people will never know what this feels like.
