Sorry for the delay getting this one up -- there were some pretty bad sync issues with the quotes being out of sync with the rest of the audio, and I didn't have time to wait for the video to re-render before I skedaddled off to work. Should be fixed now, though!

An interesting video for sure. One thing you got wrong, however is with respect to George Raft. Raft was good friends with Ben Siegel before the latter moved out to Los Angeles. In fact, Ben wanted to get into acting and used Raft to make introductions at the several studios in town. Also, George Raft was a pretty tough guy himself, having worked as a bouncer in popular speakeasys such as Tommy Guinan's. He was also an amateur and then gold gloves boxer.

I have read parts of the Oahspe and I thank you for this analysis. It is naive and dangerous to believe that Newbrough and others such as the Brazilian healer "John of God" are "fakes". It is clear that Newbrough had the right intentions at heart and the many testimonies of healings by "John of God" are indicative that there is something "real happening". The material minded see "fakery" and "foolishness", the spiritually wise see that these individuals were deceived by very real "spirits". Just because a spirit is able to speak through you and give accurate predictions and healings, doesn't mean that it is all good. The spirit world, like ours, is complex with some that mean well others mean harm but the vast majority are indifferent and are focused on "their own interests". Communing with spirits is like entering a chat group from the 80's.- "You don't know who you are talking to". It's possible that he was influenced by multiple spirits with different intentions. The "vegan" diet makes one open to spirit communication-both helpful spirits and harmful ones as well. A vegetarian diet not a vegan diet is recommended by the ancients (East Indians). Veganism for short periods of time is OK but for too long the opening of spirit facilities makes you vulnerable. I suspect the "vegan" diet contributed to the deaths of the many children at the compound as well as Newbroughs own death from influenza. Those that live the longest are balanced with yin/yang. Those that are too yang (which most Americans are from eating rich foods) benefit from a vegan diet until their constitution becomes too yin then it becomes harmful. This is why some benefit from a meat based diet and others from a vegan one. -Spirit Woman

While I do not think that certain races are better than others, I do think that there are SOME valid practices of being careful in selecting a mate. I do not think choosing to marry your first cousin or worse, your sibling should be encouraged. I think it should remain illegal to do so. That is a sort of genetic hygiene we practice, and no one bats an eye when it comes down to it. I also think you shouldn't mate with someone who can't abstain from drinking or won't refuse to do drugs, ESPECIALLY during pregnancy. These people have changed their genetic makeup as we are finding in today's science, and produce children with birth defects. Would anyone believe that a woman should smoke while pregnant? I don't think it should be illegal, but I definitely wouldn't breed with someone who would do that.

Interestingly enough, I would argue that he wasn't -- he personally taught his followers that all races were equal and during his lifetime he put his money where his mouth was. The children he adopted at Shalam came from all races and creeds. The problem was that he also wrote the Oahspe, and the book reflexively and unthinkingly casts people with non-white skin tones as villains with less spiritual development. Once Newbrough was gone, everyone basically had to move forward with what he had written and not what he had said.

@@orderjackalope an egregious misinterpretation and completely taken out of context. According to the book, all of humanity came from the same tree. The line of light from the creator was brought into the world by "fallen angels" and a consequence race that no longer exists today, inasmuch as we are all now part of this new genetic capability as beings of light. The vanished race had played out their role in seeding all of humanity with light. Now, as to the colors of the human race as we see them today, including the color white, were created during long processes of genetic drift and had more to do with regions of colored lights in the firmament, over regions of the earth, during man's creation. An interesting and complex idea. But, just because this magical race of people (known as the little white people throughout history) were lightly colored, being opaque like the moon, they say, and now mating with the first man-creatures 'from the earth up', yes, and they were dark too, like the earth. But this has nothing to do with one race over another race. It is just simply how the races were developing.. Perhaps reading straight through instead of skipping around would help give you a better understanding. At least, understand the context of what you are presenting before making such a claim.... Otherwise... I think you have done a really good job of staying true to the truth of Newbrough s journey.

Rapp was a swindler, at best. Possible occultist....I've been researching Rapp for a while, hard to explain my findings without sounding like a crazy person. Let's just say, I found the pressing stone by the lake in New Harmony.
@orderjackalope Жыл бұрын
I don't know if I could go as far as to call him a swindler. Rapp's religious beliefs seem sincere, and while he could be a bit tyrannical he ran the Harmony Society for his own personal benefit. He had beliefs regarding alchemy and the occult that seem pretty out there to us, but which aren't too far from what an educated late 18th-Century gentleman would have believed. He definitely got a lot weirder towards the end of their time in New Harmony and especially after they moved back to Pennsylvania, though. I would love to hear what you have to say!

I'm trying to think how you could build a dramatic arc around it. If it's focused on Newbrough then he just sort of randomly dies. If it's focused on the colony, you have to spend a huge amount of time building up Newbrough and then kill him off halfway through the story.

John Ballou Newbrough was a 33rd degree Mason and an avid student of the world’s religions. Over a decade ago I read on the internet that his daughter said that he was kicked out of the Order (for reasons I dont remember or not mentioned) and to get back at them he went on a mission to destroy the Spiritualism movement of the 19th century, thus writing Oahspe. Being a mason of that degree and a studier of all the religions I understand it can be easy to come up with a narrative that kind of uses the known religions as dots and him drawing lines and filling the gaps between them. Some of the rituals he describes were being practiced by the masons at that time and he had sworn secrecy like every other member of the order. No mason could call him out for revealing secrets because no mason would want those rituals in the spotlight so they kept quiet (i guess). So he could go on and claim that angels wrote Oahspe and not being bothered by the masons while he would reveal their rituals as insurance. How clever! So one could get some 33rd degree masonic knowledge from the study of Oahspe. Thats all to it and nothing more. Sorry if im ruining it...
@orderjackalope Жыл бұрын
Got any sources for that? It seems a bit strange to try to take down the Masons by destroying Spiritualism -- there are definitely interconnections between the two groups but they're hardly one and the same.

@@orderjackalope It was over a decade ago, maybe around 2006-2008 when I read this about Oahspe. I will try and find any relative info. Part of this info came from his daughter, not sure of the name. Around 2004 I bumped into a small cult and Oahspe was part of the "teaching" among other things. I was told to pay attention to just certain things from the Oahspe book and some of the teachings I received were just interpolations.

This is an amazing documentary but very disturbing. Also, I can only imagine what life was like in those days. And the babies and children being raised up in that kind of strange environment was bizarre. The human mind is a terrible thing to waste. That's why we humans can make our own choices on how to live our lives. Regardless of the consequences being right or wrong.

A very American story. The storied entrepreneurial spirit combined with a generous heaping of religious fervor is what made this nation what it is today. In order to survive the trials and tribulations of life, a certain amount obdurate blindness is necessary. To simply carry on when every strand of common sense pleads with you to desperately to quit requires a sternness of spirit that we can all admire from close by and scoff at from afar. Transplant this story into the present day and you would not have to look long to find its approximate match. They are us and we are them. Hallelujah Lord, show me the money.
