I came across your channel, and though you haven't uploaded in some time, I am hoping that you're still active. I am a paralegal student, and my heart is falling more and more in love with the legal field. I have a lot of questions about not just law school, but the profession itself. If you have the time, I would love to talk with you and gain insight. Luckily, I have a pretty good idea as to where I would want my legal career to go, so that is working in my favor. Nonetheless, I am still left with a lot of questions.

I have always been thinking the same way and the same thing like you said before taking the bar. Only 2%of lawyers who were firstly licensed opens their own lawfirm is giving me the feeling that my decision was not wrong. Thank you Mr. Patrick.

Absolutely motivational! I was awful at high school, I partied too much in undergrad (which took me 6 years), and mediocre at law school, but always self-employed. The motivation to not work for someone else is what is driving me to take and pass the bar this coming February and succeed in my own firm. Thanks for this amazing content!

What is your method to determine the most important information?
@pemmedia3 ай бұрын
When building outlines, spend the most time on the issues/rules that have the most material from you source books, e.g. Contracts = Offer, Acceptance, Consideration, etc... But on the bar exam spend the most time on the issues/rules where the most facts apply from the essay question.

Hi Patrick, I’m a rising 1L at CWSL who is retired Navy. I will likely start my own practice once I pass the bar, but didn’t have a successful model that made sense to me and my position, until today. I found your video while viewing CWSL’s KZbin page, and am glad I did. Thank you for sharing your journey and publishing it Colin Premdas, LCDR (ret)

Me = (For profit or for purpose): For profit. (Litigation or transactional): Litigation. (Tort, criminal or civil, business, estate, family):business = business/corporate litigation. Makes sense why I don't care for criminal law or people's problems in general like personal injury. Got some clarity from this video. Thanks

Thank you for the video. I am starting as an M&A Associate doing business development for an RIA firm that also does some institutional wealth management. I want to get my law degree after I get my feet wet for a year or 2. What should I get it in and where do you suggest going? I got a dual major in economics and religious studies at Claremont McKenna College (pretty decent school with a pretty decent GPA). I would love to aim for the stars on what school I go to. Any suggestions? Thank you for the video again, and any future advice.
@pemmedia6 ай бұрын
Sounds like a great plan. In law school, there are no specific majors just elective classes or perhaps "programs" or "concentrations" depending on the school. One should always aim to get into the best law school possible. One's focus should be the LSAT preparation and score. From there it will be pretty clear which schools are viable options based on your LSAT score and undergrad GPA. Between those options, you can see which schools offer the most extensive classes and network relating to M&A.

Can you specialize in more than one type of law? What if you want to have one specialization that’s “purpose,” and another that’s “profit” ?
@pemmedia6 ай бұрын
It is common for lawyers to practice in more than one area of the law, but doing so creates potential inefficiencies and challenges. The issue is whether spending time practicing in one area for purpose will reduce your ability to practice in another area for profit and vice versa.

Most quality sample documents are available through paid subscription services like Westlaw or LexisNexis. However, I have found www.lawinsider.com/ to have a good variety of specific provisions that can be added to contracts.

What advice would you give to someone who’s starting a Paralegal Certification
@pemmedia6 ай бұрын
Regarding the practice area to pursue as a paralegal, I would give the same advice as in this video, except that you will not necessarily need to appear in court, but would be subject to the court's calendar if you worked in litigation. However, when starting out, we sometimes have to take the jobs that are available to gain experience, which is fine until you figure out what kind of law you really want to work in.

Much appreciated. I'm almost 69 and thinking of going back to law school. Query--is typing speed a factor in passing the Bar? Keep up the good work!
@pemmedia7 ай бұрын
I would say that typing speed is a factor in passing the bar. I started law school at age 33 and I couldn't type well at all. Since all note taking in law school is done on laptops, and part of bar exam preparation, is typing out a lot of practice essays, my typing skills increased by 10X.

Is it helpful having and MBA? I want to get the law degree as well to get into this work. I'm in sales as well. Lol. Im digesting many videos like this in my 30's.
@pemmedia7 ай бұрын
An MBA is potentially valuable, but one would have the weigh the costs and time commitment to get one. Now days it is easy to learn essential skills online like accounting, basic tax implications of M&A transactions, marketing and sales. I've learned more about business through the practice of business law, than any MBA program could ever teach. Most business owners and successful professionals that I know say that an MBA is fine, but learning through real life experience is far more valuable.

I appreciate you taking the time to create all of these helpful videos. I just gradauted with a business admin. degree and am working on the LSAT right now. Is it common for attorneys to have a practice focusd on M&A and real estate? Or would it be disadvantageous to practice both?
@pemmedia9 ай бұрын
I think that most attorneys who specialize would consider M&A and Real Estate to be two different specialties. However, many attorneys are more than capable of handling both M&A and Real Estate transactions. My view is that the more time you spend working on one area of the law, the better and more valuable you become in that specialty. If you split your time and experience, you dilute your effort and value.

Thanks for this video Mr. Monroe. I'm currently a law student and I am interested in M and A's. I would have to revisit this video once I gain more insight on this topic but one thing I did note was to be selective on areas of law I engage in which should be business transactions.

Great video Patrick. Would you say getting a CPA will help you get into Law School and practice in M&A, especially if you have a lower GPA?
@pemmedia11 ай бұрын
Being a CPA would probably be a value add to a law school application, but I would not recommend becoming a CPA for the sole purpose of getting into law school. If a CPA wants to become an attorney and practice M&A then I think a CPA background would be useful.
@mamaobama71323 ай бұрын

Thanks @francoPhysique. There's more to come. I got a low LSAT score and was still able to have a successful and fulfilling career as a lawyer. The LSAT is not determinative, but is a good place to test your interest, skills (at that time) and motivation for going to law school.
