Ok pretty sure this whole installation is illegal and not remotely close to code. 1) First, those old work plastic boxes are designed to go INSIDE drywall, NOT sticking out and exposed! You need a proper metal / outdoor or surface mount box. 2) When surface mounting a box like this, that's also the wrong kind of plate. You need a mud plate. Sorry, this guy has no idea what he's doing. Do not install like this! Will be flagged on any inspection for sure.

If they don't fly far, how are they on my 12th floor terrace? I'm in NYC and this year, I was hopeful until a few days ago. There were so few I thought they'd moved on. Wrong. But I agree that spraying works. I have a DeWalt and spray a lot of stuff including Spotted Lanternfly Killer. I also carry a sprayer when walking in the city. They hop unless you spray them up close and in the face with a power sprayer.
