I dreamt tonight about some sort of singing company in the USA in the 1970s. They put on shows with their own members doing different kinds of singing in different genres. Among others I saw a video of what looked like a jazz band on stage and a black man in a blue suit singing, but the music that came out sounded more like heavy metal. The company had a slight inferiority complex as none of their members had gone on to be opera singers. The event that the members were most proud of was when Helge Brilioth made a guest appearance where the whole evening's program was about him.

Obviously the mike placement is either in the orchestra, from the audience or from the house feed and strongly favors the orchestra. Siepi and Kollo are staged all the way upstage hence they sound distant. Balance is terrible.

The pitch is a bit high (about 1/4 tone). Is it issue of recording remastering or it matter of orchestra pitch? If it's real high pitch, thas very difficult to sing for bass.

Ingrid Bjoner was the Ariadne in the new production at the met in the early 1960's she was amazing she can also be heard on a Frau recorded around the same time
