That’s a great idea to soak the beans in your canning jars. I’ve never thought of that.

You’re right. It’s not dry canning. They soak for 8 hours or overnight and then you start with boiling water in each jar to pressure can.

Definitely should be more videos going into depth on canning/jarring, and the safety of it/ correct procedure to go about it. A lot of people die every year from poor canning jobs. Information like this can be life saving!

Why doesn't the ring help to keep the seal? Isn't it a bigger chance that the seal breaks if there Isn't a ring?
@lifehomemade
@lifehomemade 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for asking! That’s a great question that I had wondered myself in the beginning of my canning journey. The sealing should be complete within 24 hours of pressure canning. If it is not, it will come loose and reveal itself much easier with the ring off. Keeping the ring on doesn’t make an inadequate seal strong enough to keep the food from spoiling. It’s just a less obvious spoilage.

how long can we store these canned beans in and outside the refrigerator? also once opened how quickly should we consume?
@lifehomemade
@lifehomemade Жыл бұрын
Length of time storing in the fridge once opened- is like other opened refrigerated foods 3-7 days typically. Still sealed in the jar on the shelf is at least 18 months if stored in ideal temps 50-70° Fahrenheit. (We have used things many years past canning as long as it was still sealed and didn’t show any signs of spoilage.)

Can someone explain how this replaces oil-
@lifehomemade
@lifehomemade Жыл бұрын
Applesauce is a one to one replacement for oil. Butter can also replace oil in recipes. Butter makes for a tastier cake. Since I had almost enough butter for this cake and a little bit of applesauce, it worked to completely replace the oil. But I’ve also done 1:1 applesauce for oil in cakes, cookies, and muffin recipes.

Too many beans in your jar. You should have plenty of water as beans continue to soak up water the longer they sit.
@lifehomemade
@lifehomemade Жыл бұрын
This is the right amount of water that my family likes. I’ve been canning for 18 years and have done different ratios. But for some, using less beans may be more to their liking.
