You need to obtain the Mystic Melody upgrade for Rouge in order to be able to play it at these little ruins. You can find it in Dry Lagoon by digging into the painting on the right wall of the big square area you start in.

You have to do the back ring glitch TWO times! Make sure you follow the video exactly and it will work.

A little, but not too much! The OG skip has a lot of different steps that all have to go right. Once you know how each step works you can get CG Skip to work pretty much 100% of of the time and it's not a scary skip anymore. CGSS has relatively harder steps but only a couple of them so there's fewer "aha!" moments needed before you get it working. Historically that means that CGSS was never 100% reliable though, but this video was made literally days after we discovered how to even make the trick plausible. There are newer strats done by other runners of the game which improve CGSS' reliability and speed a lot. You should check out some more modern speedruns to see those tricks in action!

There is actually a more modern, consistent method of doing this trick! This old method gives you what we call the Good Camera but it only works around 35% of the time at best. @@RussianBlue4S I watched that around the same time, although I couldn't get the timing for the spindash down. I'll look into it a little deeper in a bit.

@@Munch_28 Use the cars on the right as a visual cue for when to start holding the spindash. You can just look for a certain colour car and press the button as soon as you see it and get really accurate timing that way. For the button presses if you can't get them in real time all you need to do is pause as you go over the pads. Then you move your hands so you have access to the Jump button (or the equivalent on your controller) and the start button on separate fingers. You can hit Jump to unpase and then Start too repause immediately after to do what we call a Pause Advance (like TASers would use Frame Advance) until Sonic is in the right position. Then when you're ready to go you have one finger above Start button and one that can quickly rock between the Jump and Action buttons. I use my thumb because I can just rock it between the two to get the inputs as low as a frame apart, but your controller and hand may need a different finger to be used. So then you just hit Start-Jump-Action as fast as you can and you should get the timing. With a bit of practice you can get this down extremely fast and reliable!

@@RussianBlue4S Oh, Pause Advancing would make it easier. The timing and lining up with the cars has always been the most difficult part for me, but if I watch some other runs with it in addition to taking this advice into account, I should be able to figure out that way. Also, pretty sure it would be Start-Action-Jump and not "Start-Jump-Action" but I get the gist. Thanks for explaining this in such detail to a rando like myself.

Sadly, you need the upgraded boots from Mad Space to affect the boxes

Make sure you are doing the glitch TWICE and then GETTING THE EXTRA LIFE. This whole process is very important! When you glitch once the game will show 99, but you don't have 99, you have some very high number that the game knows is wrong. The second glitch gets you to one life less than that number, and then you get the extra life. When you do that the game realizes something's wrong, so it resets you to 99. This whole process is critical to getting 99 instead of 0.
