So lovely. Thomas Moore an Irish poet published this poem in 1817 in his book " Lalla Rookh"( story of a Kashmiri poet and a fictional Mughal princess). This was one of the four poems with the narrative text that comprised the book and this work became very popular and was often performed in plays and opera. The details of why this format of writing takes one to the literary history of Mughal era and how Persian language influenced English poetry. A hundred years later in early 1900s, Nadir Kokorvi an Urdu poet translated this work of Moore into Urdu which became his most popular and heart wrenching poem. Below is the Urdu poem sung by the legendary singer Reshman. Poetry in all forms is a gift that keeps on giving. <3
Some songs are sung with soul.. Tears from the first measure.. 00 Thomas Moore lives on..

John used to sing the national anthem at Toronto Maple Leafs hockey games. I saw him perform live in Florida at a “Snow Birds” event put on for Canadians who spend the winters in Florida. He sang my favourite Gordon Lightfoot song called “Song for Winter’s Night” and did his famous rendition of “Danny Boy”. He explained that while most people think that Danny Boy is about the Irish Diaspora, the song was actually written by an Englishman in London who got the idea of the song from a Scottish Poem that was sent to him from his sister in the USA, and then he set the tune to a Traditional Irish Tune called “Londonderry Air”. And he said “he was pretty sure that there was a Welshman involved in the whole thing”.

This song is so heart warming..brings to mind of the Irish nation and individuals who saw abject poverty ..and many struggles .. This was played at my aunties funeral today who’s mother came from enniskillen and had strong Irish connections ..the harmonies and the way their voices connect, is something that brings to mind the wonderful old Ireland and its inhabitants..this is no doubt the best version of the “ Red is the rose” ever ..Thank you 🌹🌹🌹

My lines are Scottish, Irish, Welsh, German and English...back to the Ural Mountains into Romania-Transylvania ...my people have been gypsy tramps thieves moonshineers, we backd Prince Charlie and lost and we are on the legal side of things as well...but we are always mindful of the magic in our blood and the hearts of the warriors who came before us...we pass on our history to each generation when they reach the age to understand what it means to them...be proud of your heritage 😉

No, No, NO! Julia Ward Howe DID NOT write "As He died to make men holy let us LIVE to make men free" but "Let us DIE to make men free" which changes the whole meaning of the moving piece. This most wonderful of all anthems is not "The Church Hymn of the Republic" but "The BATTLE Hymn of the Republic" and you don't go into BATTLE to make men free unless you are prepared to DIE! Are you prepared to DIE to make men free? I am.

Used to hear this sung along the Prom in the Isle of Man of a summer’s’ evening, when I was a child. We had a lot of Irish workers come over for the season. From both NI and Eire.

This exquisite melody was incorporated into von Flotow's opera "Martha" and is usually sung in Italian as "Sul cespite tremante' -on the quivering bush and is a kind of musical motif which is picked up and sung by the chorus. There was a recent movie called "Three Billboards Outside......Missouri" where, sung by soprano Renee Fleming, this was part of the soundtrack.

If your young or just don't understand. Sadly One Day we'll all feel these words in your heart. Its truly & honestly beyond me how anyone can sing this live when your heart is broken! Our Loved Ones are never gone. They hear our voices & wait for us to join them one day.
