I used to be a swimmer in primary and high school. In primary school there was a special bus that picked up the WAIS gymnasts early to take them to training. Since my brother and I did swimming in the afternoons my mum told us to catch that bus. It turned out the bus driver even drove my sisters to training when they were in primary school 😂 Since our training didn't start for a while, we would often watch the gymnasts train through the big clear glass which was really cool. Swimming is hard but I doubt it even compares to gymnastics.

The way i see it the coach groomed abused and brainwashed the girls. Caring only about the gold. Prize is everything. The mom finally did what was best for her daughter and not what the daughter wanted.
@signer2510 ай бұрын
Bad coachs would rather have them in permanent injury in wheelchair than to bail before getting killed. Bad coaches win gold at any cost. Even at the rist of lives of girls. Prize is all that matters. Good coaches brings out the best and bring the best at full strength not just those who are luckly enough to survive the condition and abuse treatment.
@signer2510 ай бұрын
There would be less injuries and less accidents if the girls were allowed to rest heal and eat. Only then could the girls perform at their true best at full strength. They are not machines. Coaches are responsible for the success AND FAILURE of the athletes. Thus are responsible for any injuries the girls go through because of their guidance. I blame the coach for treating them like machines. Only survivor are able to perform though not at their best. Performing with injuries that turn into life ending injuries. Life in a brace or wheelchair or something. With good coaches athletes can reach full potential and perform at their best without risk of permanent injuries.
@signer2510 ай бұрын
Theres a way to train athletes properly into champions without treating them like machines that dont need fuel or rest. with bad coaches like the ones who starve students, only survivors make it. The ones who dont have permanent damage. Not necessarily the best ones. Good coaches allow rest and fuel so that athletes will be at full strength. They have no injuries and are able to perform at their best.
@signer2510 ай бұрын
Its not worth her training if she is order not to eat. No food means no energy means no strength. Athletes have passed out cause people treat them like machines. Athletes have had permanent damage causing them never again able to do the sport again. Pain killers gets rid of pain but not the source. Those without food are known to pass out in dangerous situations position. Mid air on beans or bars for example. Athletes are forced to choose either risk permanent damage or rest and return with full strength. Soccer gymnastics figure skating dancing etc.

The best thing to think about when choosing a gymnastics coach is the coach/athlete/parent fit. All 3 parts of the triangle must communicate equally, regularly and consistently. It was like that for me when I did gymnastics at a competitive level and it should be for anyone else.

Elite gymnastics is brutal. I had to quit to have scoliosis surgery. The years of hell I went through as a gymnast made me stronger, but wiser as to the inherent dangers of the sport I so loved.

This movie is based on Bella Karolli's girls; Domonique Muchiano and the 4 gymnasts that made the Fab 5 USA OLYMPIC GYMNASTICS TEAM of 1996. I just watched an interview on KZbin with Domonique and they were talking about this movie! The horrific abuse and starvation these girls went through 😞😞😬😬

To my knowledge, Karolyi never had ANY male gymnasts at his "ranch". To my eyes, that looks suspicious & creepy
@beckyclawson22453 жыл бұрын
1996 team was the Magnificent Seven and only 2 of them were Karolyi girls. This movie is based on an actual non fiction book or the same name and it was not all about the Karolyis.

Good for the father speaking up. When it's about the safety of these athletes, everything else should go out the window. Rising to challenges is one thing, but doing something dangerous that could permanently damage or kill you is another. You can't be an Olympian if you are dead.
@dlamancha56974 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting this movie! Perfect Body had a similar theme, but I thought it was a very good eating disorder themed movie, This one was more themed as all of the horrors that elite gymnasts have to face in general. Also, it depicted that some of the parents were totally intense and insane (Tina comes to mind--"She's not on the gold team! You can't sit in the front row!" Crazy stuff.

Katie's dad: "I thought she was just gonna train, and eat, and go to school. No one said anything about an expensive choreographer" Coach Radkin in part 2 at the 2:55 timestamp: "Money. I'm afraid we don't come cheap. Living expenses and basics, $30,000 a year. Tutors, choreographers are extra. Anyway, its the way we do things here."

SnowbirdFlock this was 1997 though. They were still a power house at that time--they won the team gold at the 2000 Olympics and swept the medals in the all-around. (There was the incident involving Raducan's banned cold medicine, but almost everyone considers that to have been bull. It also was the reason for the idiotic 2-per-country rule being implemented.

Dancers go through this too , it’s a shame that instructors and coaches are like this. It’s torture to see this , my sister was a gymnast , she loved it until the coach wanted to “ push “ her into a “ Team “ of uptight , stuffy snobs. My mother is a private dance instructor ( the classic art of ballet ) and she’s usually very compassionate with her students. She’s been dancing since I was little, and I even tried it , I even tried gymnastics, I hated it. I didn’t want to end up like this . Your health is not worth pushing yourself this far , ever !
