A twilight sparkle supporter! I love twilight and her ambition. I felt so personally proud of her when she finally got wings and I think she was the original girl boss. Its very easy to make a Mary sue but twilight didn’t become that. She makes mistakes and learns from them. Having this nerdish bookish character who is aloud to be a nerd becoming a girl boss is satisfying to see. Also as an artist her design is my favorite mostly cus she’s purple :)). Your video is fantastic and i hope to see your grow some more.

I will say that I can see where you're coming from. For me, Season 1 of Fairy Tail is a solid show in its own right, and it has actual set-up and pay-off. The foreshadowing is subtle. The characters are consistent. And while the plot isn't complicated, it does follow logically, for the most part. Season 2 onward kinda gets into this unfortunate pattern of sameness. Introduces far too many characters, usually too many villains. They don't properly develop most of them. And there are always these mystery box elements that don't really need to be there, or should be integrated more naturally into the story. You kinda hit the nail right on the head with Wendy's introduction. I don't think she's an awful character. She has some excellent moments later on. But man, the Oracion Seis Arc did make it difficult to like her at first. She also represents a larger problem I have with Fairy Tail and the anime universe in general. But that's more relevant in later arcs.

28:58 agreed- fairy tail is too comfortable and safe a show. Even later when it gets dark and sad, it feels like handheld sadness rather than pure “fuck, this is bleak and I’m genuinely worried for the characters”. If you don’t like Natsu now you will dislike him later- he really doesn’t develop at all throughout the story

honestly I loved watching this video, there's just something about hearing fairy tail criticism followed by some appreciation that just tickles my brain. Although, I do have to say, as a long term fairy tail fan, who has watched every single fairy tail arc, season 1 is just sooooo... one dimensional. And just doing a commentary on this just one season makes your commentary almost comical for people who are longterm fairy tail fans. It's kind of like, for example, you click on a video talking about Demon Slayer after just watching the first 5 episodes, granted it would still be a positive commentary, considering the pacing of both fairy tail and Demon Slayer are completely different, but for fairy tail, as some seasons progress, you connect with the characters far more than you did before, season 1 was just the beginning, it went into depth with some characters, but as seasons progress you get more, and some holes tend to get filled in by themselves, you might have also realized that season 1 just wasn't the season for Natsu, it gets better and his character is just so much more than that's shown. Either way, I liked this commentary because it had the naive nature I shared when first getting on fairy tail, well I don't really know how you grew up on Demon Slayer unless you're like 13, but I was raised with fairy tail so I might be biased lol. ps. I, in part, disagree with your characterization of Motendo. It took a couple of watches and rewatches in sequence to realize I believe the show creators were actually foreshadowing in a super meta way. The theme of Motendo is about not living in the past or be trapped in "reliving the glory days." The idea that us an an audience, and now an adult audience, like Jubilee has to move on. I feel like it was a meta nod to the fact the nostalgia of the first few episodes was fun, but it's over and time to move on to bigger things. I think it was very intentional that the next episode was a hard left turn and changed the trajectory of the entire series. From this lens, I've come to appreciate Motendo as a clever bit of storytelling.

Here's what I love about fairy tale, it doesn't take months to get through a single backstory, it is usually done in a single episode. Thank god. Because one piece for example, just drags on way to long which just makes me lose interest.

i agree i don't like this arc very much, but i was rewarded by finishing it by getting edolas,tenrou,GMG,Tartaros like please for the love of god do not drop this show it gets much better. Edolas was the arc that got me obsessed with this series as opposed to me just thinking it was ok. It also hurts to see you dislike Wendy so much because her growth is one of my favorite character arcs in the entire series while also being realistic. I kind of don't get your hate for her considering she's and accurate depiction of how a normal 12 year old girl would react in this situation which is really refreshing to see in anime considering how many kids are just out here casually fighting grown men with murderous intent. honestly this is like a really weird place to drop the show,most people drop shows after certain arc not in the buildup part of one, its like dropping dbz when vegeta is fighting the ginyu force. I get that its boring but atleast see i through to the end

I also agree with your view on the Oracion Seis arc! I would never watch it again if I had a choice, but the arc after this picks up so incredibly it makes the Oracion Seis slowness feel like a distant memory. The Oracion Seis arc also has amazing moments in the second half, where all of the mysteries are answered and the biggest payoffs occur. If you're a big Lucy fan there is a specific moment that's fun enough to watch and sets up something cooler down the line. Honestly I think you stopped watching exactly when the story picks up in stakes and a specific goal begins. All your confusion with Mystogan vs Jellal are also answered in the next arc over! HIGHLY recommend getting through this arc just for the next one, it is genuinely one of the best along with the Grand Magic Games.

I hope you continue to watch the series I can relate to you that the erasios seis arc is in my opinion the weakest early fairy tail arc cause I had the same problem as you and barely finished it , but when I say that this series genuinely, gets better after this arc especially the arc after the next one , I mean it. The characters story and action gets so fleshed out and cooler to the point where it surpasses even phantom lord , and heaven’s tower I promise it will deliver!!!!!

This is really confusing to me, you say you stopped at celestial skirmish which is like, the 6th episode in this arc? There's like 17. A lot of the issues you have are answered almost immediately after this stuff. And your issues with Wendy also confuses me because like, this is her arc, this is her introduction. She's a 12 year old girl who has never had to fight like this before, never had to do anything like this before. This arc is the beginning of Wendy's journey, a handful of episodes later Wendy's growth already starts. And I mean you basically stopped right before the arc focused into defeating the Oracion seis, all the story and "unimportant" fights up till this moment is setting everything into place for the end of the arc. Your confusion over Jellal, Your confusion over Wendy, your unfocused feeling of the arc's main goal, it's all fixed and explained by the end of everything. I get it's your opinion and nothing is going to make you want to go back to a series you've already given up on but it just seems so odd to me to abandon a series in the middle of an arc before all the issues you're having get resolved in the same arc. Even Mystogan and Jellal is explained in the very next canon arc after this one. This arc sets a lot of things up for every arc and a lot of characters after it. It's such an odd place to abandon the series, i think this might be the first time I've ever heard of someone dropping it here.

Does anyone else thinks he missed some context and the other stuff he was talking about? I mean i respect your opinion but saying there wasn't setup or goal for the arc doesn't line up with what happened (Nirvana). Before the arc even started we had clues and full conversations about the Baram Alliance and how the had sub guild under them. Not having them there would be a huge plot hole. Plus we needed to learn or get a refresher on our allies abilities. They had side quest because the situation changed they had to adapt to the situation. Jellal never exploded. Erza had a theory the he took control of the tower and shot the energy into the sky. You'll learn more about the Baram alliance in another arc givinh context to how the Oracion Seis knew where he was. The Jellal/Mystogan mystery would've been solved in the arc after this one. The episodes before the Nirvana/Oracion Seis arc were mostly in the manga with some added scenes to expand into a full episode. They were meant to get the viewers most interested in the characters. This show is carried by its cast (60% of the time) and then the plot. I get if you fell out of love with the show. But it really needed to expand or it would've become repetitive. Hitting the same story beats over and over. They have time to expand a story unlike the movies you were mentioning so just let the story play out

All I can say is that if you continue watching, it will all make sense. Everything about Jellal and Wendy is a setup for the Edolas arc. I want to say more but i won't for Spoiler reasons.

Regarding Wendy, I don't think she needs to be able to kick ass or not have her negative traits. She's a child. A lot of children are clumsy, shy and timid especially when surrounded by people years older than them while on a job to fight a dark guild. I do understand how those traits aren't appealing but to say they're flawed and context needs to be given? If everything was explained right away it would be spoon feeding information when it's not needed. A kid getting captured and whine isn't unrealistic and her getting her ass kicked isn't unexpected as well, she's a kid. I feel like you can also call Wendy kind, polite and brave. I do think sending a weak kid in this instance isn't smart, but that complaint should be put as a burden on her. Realistically speaking that would be on her guild or whoever hired these guilds.

Something that might help clear things is up about the lack of foccuse is because it was supposed to end after the Phantom Lord arc, but due to popularity at the time, Hiro decided to continue on the story. Fairytail was number 4 on the list at that time, only being one spot away from the big three. After the phantom lord arc, you could see that Hiro incorporated more elements of contrast between characters. He really wanted to focus on a solid team of characters as a main cast, which is why they each have an arc dedicated to their backstory, and how they got to where they are today. What’s really fascinating is that Hiro wanted to differ from other mangas by showcasing why having a team of main characters being the main focus of the show will always benefit more than prioritizing other aspects. But of course, you also need to implement an interesting plot, and because it was not planned to be this long, Mashima struggled to find his footing while writing both the oracion seis arc and the edolas arc right after this one, and it is not until the tenrou arc that he figures out what he wants his story to be about by introducing four very important characters to the plot and expanding on already existing ones that way giving up mostly considered fairy tail best part tenrou,gmg,tartorus,zero And as for the Wendy and Jellal stuff, I found it kind of unfair because she literally developed much faster than the main cast and only needed to finish the arc.The majority of them are very simple and one-dimensional, but they develop in their perspective arcs later in the series.As for the Jellal stuff, it was the building up of the copy mystery and thx to that, which expands the world and lore of fairy tail a lot. The same goes for comedy; what you do not find funny, others will, and Ichiya is a fan favorite for a reason, but for the rest, I agree with you.Anyways, good video, and take care. ❤

I won't spoil anything in case you want to watch more (which I would highly recommend), but Laxus and Jellal both get excellent character development later on. Fairy Tail does an awesome job of building on itself, and little notes mentioned early on often become big plot points, which I really like. It makes the show feel very thought-out and intentional, which is something I feel a lot of shounens struggle with.

Daredevil was not a Disney show that was originally Netflix before they dragged him into the MCU. But I wont argue X-men 97 is hands down the best Marvel/Disney + show for sure.

Fifth episode dancing scene was perfection, kind of one in years I had pleasure to watch. There was a lot of things that kind of went nowhere. Xavier galactic love story that felt like they cut in shorter that they wanted, and was utterly pointless. Random weird game show. It looked like there were great writers and rly bad ones in this series in different episodes.
