Mate looks like you caught bugger all but i just want to say thanks for the video great set up. Im thinking of making something similar but easy access to clip together something light weight as well. I want to have a side arm so it on the side of my boat with a very strong reinforced arm extending out. I would like to trawl in the boat from the side not behind

Many people voted Brexit to get our fishing rights back and terminate the plundering of our stocks since 1972. Boris had to submit to presssure on fishing and allowed another 5 years for the EU to continue to plunder. It now looks like this will be extended as the EU threaten us with other limits. The fish in the UK will never recover.

We used to catch 100-200 pints of brown shrimps here in a few hours years ago, but since the sewer outlets were all closed, they vanished. Such a shame. We boiled ours differently. We used to have 3 gallons of water above a high power gas burning ring, chuck in a mug of salt for the first boil, and half a mug each subsequent boil. We had the burner turned up as high as possible, so the water started foaming, put in 8/10 pints of shrimps, a quick stir, and once the water started foaming again, scooped out and put on mesh drying trays. Nothing like having a pint or two of hot brown shrimps out of the boiler.

I was thinking of putting out a landline at night at low tide with about 20 hooks anchored between two rocks. Does the seaweed over the hooks stop the gulls and have you any advice on where i might catch cod. I live on the west coast of Ireland.
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
Hi, I'll do my best to help. Fishing on the rocks with hooks is good, however you will catch wrasse, dogs huss, Pollock maybe bream.I have put lines on the beach where it is just sand. 43 hook with squid and black lug on with no look but I catch them in the nets. My advice is to speak to some angling shops or anglers to find out where cod has been caught this way you will have a better chance of catching. The Gulls shouldn't be a problem, it's the crabs eating the bait the crabs will get there before the fish. I hope this helps you on your adventure.

hey is netting still allowed in the UK, and what type of fish are you allowed to take home? Cheers, great video.
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
Hi yes, netting is very much a way of fishing in the UK. We can take all fish, but it must be above minimum land size. Since 2012 bass is the only fish I cannot keep due to there being a UK mainland ban on netting, trawling bass.
@oneclicks-f8pАй бұрын
@@nwcoastalfishing Ah so all fish are allowed to be netted from the shore just not bass? and what type of nets are people allowed to put at the shores?
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
@oneclicks-f8p I think it's different rule around the UK. I believe some fishies don't allow fishing nets at all only lines.
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
@oneclicks-f8p I only use bottom net that only stand 6ft for the bottom. Any higher there the risk of getting bass with a would love to keep bit as mentioned not allowed 😔
@oneclicks-f8pАй бұрын
@@nwcoastalfishing you don't need a license do you to put nets at the beach for instance, only if you're commercially doing it?

This method of fishing seems very destructive to fish that do not meet the regulatory size!
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
Sadly there will always be a by catch I use bigger mesh to minimize this.
@tonybuttie3038Ай бұрын
if you think this is destructive, research what happens on a trawlers, tons of fish are thrown over the side dead every day, because the boat didn't have a quota to land the species of fish they caught and/or the fish is too small.
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
@tonybuttie3038 well said tony quota I the biggest killer. There are square mesh panels put in trawls /beam trawls to allow small under size fish to escape. But even with is there is still a by catch.

I always used to use four and half inch multi mono nets, far superior to trammels and a lot lighter. The multi mono is softer than ordinary mono and catches a lot better. Try one.
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
I only use 5.5" mesh I find it only catches the bigger size fish. I use 5.5" mono sole, plaice nets. these fish really well when the soles on the ground, and again let's the slips through.
@Chris-f6d5lАй бұрын
You can get multi mono in larger sizes, the only problem is that you miss a lot of bass. It really does catch a lot better than ordinary mono. If you try a short netflix in four and a half you will see a big improvement in catches. I used to use trammels but found them heavy and prone to tangling especially in rough weather.
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
@Chris-f6d5l I'll give it ago when I stitch a new panel in. I'm not able to keep the bass that I catch on my nets. They are protected under the buy laws that I fish under with my permit. Catch and release only. Or if they're dead leave them. On the beach. It's cracker's 🤔

Thank you NW Coastal. I appreciate your content & efforts. However, just wondering are you a mime as well as a fisher?

@@nwcoastalfishing Mime is a theatrical technique that uses body movements, facial expressions, and gestures to convey a character, emotion, or action without words. They work just the same staked into the sand, when there is a lot of weather I just put a couple more stays on to reduce movement so the net stays straight.
@trevortyldesley7213Ай бұрын
you should tie the lead rope down with slate every 20 feet it will stop the net rolling when the tide comes in your catch will go up.
@nwcoastalfishingАй бұрын
I do put extra stays in when the weather picks up just to keep the net straight. I've rigged these nets just for beach netting with double foot rope and a float every 63g float every 14 stitches. The foot rope is hard down on the bottom there would not be any rick of the net twisting.
