Mocked in some quarters, this is nonetheless a decent low-budget comedy series with a seri-comic love triangle plot, played by a strong lead cast. :-)

Just going through some old VHS tapes and came across "Barbara". Gwen and Sam Kelly + all the other brilliant cast. One episode had Joanna VG in the script. Still gorgeous and that's why I came here to see Duty Free. Nothing like this to be seen today. More's the pity.

I enjoyed it, though never understood it in a way. David is married to a beautiful woman, yet yearns after a fake clothes horse. Wish David and Amy had had their own show now.

Poor David, married to one of those truly ghastly soul-destroying wives, who are unrelentingly negative to everything their husband says or does. Although, Amy does have the most beautiful soulful eyes.

The TV shows were all recorded entirely at Yorkshire Television Studios in Leeds. Even the 'outside' shots were filmed inside the same studio. It was only the concluding 1986 Christmas Special which was (partly) filmed at the Don Carlos Resort & Spa in Marbella.

Eric Chappell was the man for ITV comedies back in the day. He wrote at least one series a year starting with Rising Damp 74-78. Only When I Laugh 79-82. Duty Free 83-86. I love them all and i enjoy watching them back to back every few years for a good laugh.

Yes indeed, BA used to be one of the best airlines in the world. I flew (in the early 80s) on a BA to Heathrow on TRI-STAR Lockheed and the service was second to none as well as the food. Oh and as a young boy in my early teens, got invited by the Captain to see the Captain and the flight crew in the cabin. WOW I was in ore.

marshalllucky means absolutely nothing. it’s tv made for Yorkshire doesn’t have to be in Yorkshire, the ITV channels show different programmes and news for their local area. Have u ever heard of filming on location? Or Corrie is set in Manchester but the set ain’t there or Where is Leeds castle? Stop lying about some dodgy uncle from the 80’s.
