I work in the mold and die industry and having two of the same materials rubbing together is a recipe for disaster. With the receiver being SS and the PTG bolt SS you were probably getting some galling in there. Just the change in bolt material was the biggest thing.

@@Bench_Talk Ive never shot the heavies in mine, I built it with a standard 10 twist as a dual purpose deer coyote rife, but I do know that the 80gr triple shocks are knocking on the door of 3650 fps and 55gr Nosler ballistic tip are rolling at 4150 fps out of (what i concidered to be marginally short for an Ackley) 24" barrel! Im betting with a fast burning powder you could match or very nearly match the speeds you are getting out of that 18" short barrel with a standard 243 win and not have the hastle of fire forming, but once again not knocking your build its a cool rifle and serves your purpose, just saying the improved case isnt particularly advantageous in that configuration.

@@Oregon-airguns I’m guessing the barrel on your 7mm-08 is a pencil barrel or very thin contour? You can definitely replace the barrel. I should have mentioned in my comment that I have no problem with using any action from a "sacrificial" rifle or factory purchased action to build a rifle. (and they will shoot if trued correctly) I have seen some impressive consistency from these type of builds. I have a Remington Model 788, which was a .308 Win that I "trued" and chambered to 6.5 Creedmoor. With Hunter powder and Badlands Precision Bull Dozer II's it will consistently shoot in the .600" and occasionally shoot in the .400" five shot groups. I would like to put some match grade bullets down the barrel as I believe it will do better than the above mentioned performance . John
@johnseptien3138
@johnseptien3138 7 ай бұрын
A quick note: What your describing being done to the action is "truing the action". "Blueprinting" the action would entail much more work and would cost much more than 250.00. The receiver threads minor diameter would be cut .010" which would then mandate the barrel tenon threads be cut .010" oversize. The action would be indicated in to 1 or 2 ten thousandths inch in order to do this work along with your action face and bolt lug abutments, as mentioned. The bolt firing pin hole would be drilled and bushed as to be in the center of the bolt face and a corresponding firing pin hole would be drilled. This bushing would also be made to maintain alignment with the firing pin and the hole so there is no drag on the pin as it moves forward to impact the primer. Also, the primary extraction timing would be adjusted via the bolt handle or material replacement or removal at the camming contact points to facilitate proper primary extraction. The fire control system would be checked for spring contact in the bolt body and the firing pin shroud would be relieved of material for clearance to make for contact free travel in it's forward movement. If there was no external bolt release one would be installed and if no after market extractor was installed, such as a mini m-16 style that would also be done. One step further would be to sleeve the bolt for a better fit to the race way. This would decrease play in the bolt body and make for better round to chamber feeding. This is why I suggest to my clients wanting a custom build is to purchase a custom action with all of the above mentioned completed from the factory. Any of the actions out there that can be purchased for under $1K are well worth the money. POA Precision Rifle, LLC.

I’m sure you’ll have good luck with the Vandal! The one thing I noticed while reloading for a few 22 Creedmoors now is that neck tension really matters.
