My precious Daddy who used to play this on the organ, accompanied by my precious stepmother on the piano ( they actually had jobs at Macy’s Herald Square playing these instruments.) So talented; it always brings tears to my eyes. Daddy has been entertaining the angels now for many years & though my stepmother is still here & playing, she is almost blind. So dedicating this gorgeous song to them both- I love you so-

I missed listening to these kind of songs. I grew up listening to my father singing this

quite a daring movie in its day -- good performances by all involved the song? charming melody, but don't love the lyrics to this song with "bells and banjos ring" - banjos don't ring. "tomtom?" just no. That lousy bells and banjos line is also in the dialog of the movie, and even acted out unconvincingly in the last scene - wonder which came first, the bad lyric, or the bad dialog? Because so many scenes are filmed on location, outdoors, it's a real picture of early sixties New York and early sixties American styles - a real treat in that regard Watch it, if you can. Actually she did not write the song. She gave the writers the idea for the song and they wrote it. She didn't write any of the songs on her first LP. The song was written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. They wrote most of the '70s sitcom opening songs... The Jeffersons, Good Times, etc.

I love listening to this song, especially in September itself and "deep in December" (like it is right now). Like a lot of people, I associate this zong with 9/11 (even though I was only 6 months old when it happened). Never forget. 🙏

I was listening in the summer of 1965 when this utter heartbreaker came out in America...and I still have the 3 copies I bought, that's how much this recording (still) means to me. It's as close as Kathy Kirby ever came to a hit in USA. And only now, much MUCH later, have I learned of the personal difficulties she suffered, and her too untimely departure. But here in this very medium I've discovered many recordings she subsequently made and were never heard in the US...including an astonishingly beautiful and heartfelt "My Way" that might've made even Ol' Blue Eyes himself proud (or jealous!). I reckon she was singing her own life story there. She was around before "The Way of Love", but that was the start of it for me, and it's still definitive, totally so. JAT
