I started watching nascar in 1997 and became a Martin fan pretty quick. Then in 98 he had probably his best year ever, his back luck was that Gordon was just out of this world that season.

Dales death still baffels me. These cars go end over end and disintegrate yet drivers walk away. The way dale hit wall just doesn't seem like it would kill him. I've seen those cars hit the wall much harder and drivers didn't die from it. And poor eric martin. Why was nobody monitoring the track to give warning to other cars. Unbuckled he knew in a split second his life was over. That i think is the worst tragic moment in nascar that could and should have been avoided.

I am completely in awe of how that could happen. If it was immediately after the initial wreck I could see something like this happening. But their was plenty of time for the crew chief, or whoever it is they are in constant radio contact with, to let the driver of the other car know their was a wreck and to slow down. This is completely unacceptable.

Instant killed. Tragic. Racing is a tragic sport. Dont see the thrill. So many lives cut short. So many people living with the pain. Ban racing.

Saddest part of Dale Srs death is that Elliot Sadler was still getting Death threats regularly when he retired like he killed Dale on purpose :(

People are going to think I’m crazy but to this day Dales wreak doesn’t look to be bad enough to kill him. It wasn’t a head on or a T-bone. To me it looks like he just came in at an angle and hit the wall like so many have done in the past. Maybe I just don’t want to believe he’s gone.
