The first live music show I ever saw in a club (not at a Concert) was Lightnin Hopkins. A forged High School ID showed me to by 18-then the drinking age. The club was Mother Blues on Lemmon Ave in Dallas. It was NY Eve on 12/31/73

I'm 99.0% believe Rev Gary Davis is my relative on my mother side of the tree. My mom said he looks just like her uncle - plus I searched the Laurens County Census 1870, 1880, and up for Davis and all the Davis I can locate near Center Rabun Missionary Baptist Church are my relatives. My Davis family are from Hunter Laurens County, South Carolina. Most of my Davis relatives went to that church Rev Gary Davis spoke of name Center Rabun Missionary Baptist Church - and lots of my Davis relatives are buried there. Rev Gary Davis should have been buried at Center Rabun Missionary Baptist Church is the home church on both sides of my tree.

He plays a very quick, "F major 7th" at around 5:12 and it's subtle magic in action.

man do i love Mance's music, but as a 38 year old man, his story rings so true it is hard to listen to. The reality for this man is he existed in a society where he was destined to work endlessly among his peers and the only drive for his endless toil was a woman's loyalty which he expresses to artistically the folly of chasing what society's technological and ethical mechanisms did not entertain. That is where his suffering is so well expressed lyrically and while you might not recognize it you can idenify it's intensity through Mance's style

I met Mance in College Station, TX when I was in high school in 1969. He was playing a coffee shop, and I was fascinated! My friend and bandmate and I talked to him for an hour after the gig ended, and he invited us to dinner at his house in Navasota the next weekend. What an amazing guy!

had the privilege of meeting Jesse Fuller at the Village corner Club in Toronto in the very early 60s. I played 12-string & he showed me how to play San Francisco blues in the tune up room! I think he got a kick out of this young girl who played 12.
