I've been crying because I've never been able to afford college cuz too many bills. House finally paid off 2 years ago, but lost my job and had a horrible mental health break. Finally managed to go back to work, but was fired 5 months later (they refused to even tell me why!) Took 6 more months to find another job, and we're making pennies compared to before--and my job is remote and I can lose it if my internet ever goes out. Not the definition of stable. So......our house also has a badly leaking roof where one of our rooms has a partially collapsed ceiling, and we're barely going to be able to get that repaired. So my desperation to go to college by the beginning of next year's fall semester is looking impossible, especially cuz the SAI crap now looks at your financial from two years ago. I just started bawling when I did all the estimates for a 5-year stretch and compared it to the cost of our state's college. Not qualified for Pell Grant, which means most scholarships are out. I scored 25 on my ACT years ago, but a teacher in my highschool tradeschool program didn't like my friend and failed me because I was friends with her, claiming I should have done all the full time student's work for the whole year even though I came in during the second semester and was only a part time student. It marked an F for three class periods on my high school transcript, knocking me from 4th in my class with GPA of 3.92 down to 10 with a GPA of 3.57. That ruined a lot of my scholarship offers, plus my parents refused to fill out the 10th grade scholarship program cuz they were also committing fraud.....and they were disgusted that I wanted to go to college and did what they could to prevent it (including various forms of physical and psychological and emotional abuse.) I later took 2 semesters in college out of my own pocket, several years apart, and have perfect 4.0 GPA and was offered to be placed in a Science Honors program, but I had to go back to work instead of being able to do that. So that offer is gone and won't come again. Everything else happened afterward regarding health and jobs, and now?? I see the scholarships always stating stuff about your High School GPA, not your other college GPA, so I'm pretty sure I won't even be able to qualify for full tuition paid for any sort of college ever again, and I can't save up for it, either, cuz it's almost $40K a year. FAFSA only gives a limited amount for Pell Grants annually (with a lifetime limit), and Federal Student Loans have a maximum per-year and lifetime aggregate limitation, so even all that won't cover a single year.....let alone I need 4 years to start over for Pre-Med. So yeah. Just crying and crying now. Doing figures and finding out more stuff that's making me cry harder, because I'll never get to do pre-med or med school at this rate. Never become an anesthesiologist. Never have a better life. I've wanted to be an anesthesiologist for over 10 years.... Your video made me feel a tiny bit better, but......I don't even know what to do. I'm an amazing student, I just can't work and do school at the same time because of my anxiety and depression disorders. I can manage one but not both or I begin to feel suicidal from the stress. Which requires a lot of bed rest to dampen those feelings and overcome it. It sucks when it feels like there is no hope and there's always these massive things that happen that makes it feel like the universe itself doesn't want you to find happiness or success. :( Thanks again for the video, though. Made me feel a bit better. I didn't know you could request more or mention life / financial circumstances. I'm obsessing over trying to find a path toward my dream future. I've had it nearly in my fingertips twice now, before everything was yanked away so brutally. That's a loss I can't even describe. Hurt so bad my soul couldn't even breathe. Like all the color and life left the world.

Hi there, I am filling out a CSU application for college and it is asking me to input my Parents' adjusted gross income (AGI) for 2022 and my Parents' untaxed income and benefits for 2022. I know the AGI can be found on line 11 of the 1040 form on the 2022 Individual Tax Return, but I want to confirm where I can find the amount for the untaxed income and benefits? Is it line 2a where it says “Tax-exempt interest” or is it line 2b where it says “Taxable interest”? Line 2a is blank, but line 2b has an amount. Which one would I put? Thank you!

I was accepted off the wait list at my #1 school. Super excited! My #2 school has lower cost of attendance (tuition, room and board). In addition, my number two school offered a 4000 per year merit scholarship. Can I submit a letter asking to be considered for a merit scholarship? Any downside?
@CollegeCoach
@CollegeCoach 8 ай бұрын
Now that you've been accepted, there's no downside at all. Be prepared, however, with waitlist offers, colleges often expect very quick responses, and may tell you that you have to make a decision based on your current offer (or lack thereof). Still, however, it's worth a shot! Good luck!

May I know for example , that my investment has current market value is $500K as today, but I only put my money is $30K in the begining years ago so how I can report my investment value now? because the market is changed all the time, may be negative tomorrow? thanks
@CollegeCoach

You are asked to report the value as of the day you're completing the form. It might have been different yesterday and might be different tomorrow, but what is the value today?

So let's say I have $5,000.65 in my bank account. This is still a college account from when I first started college. I don't have a 401K, or a savings account. For the question of "Current balance of cash, savings, and checkings account" I would put in $5,000?

Just wondering - when you plug in the purchase year and purchase price....what if you refinanced to add on and you have a new mortgage number? Do you plug in the refi date and the new mortgage amount?
@CollegeCoach

It should be your original purchase year and original purchase price, and your current mortgage debt and current monthly payment. Hope this helps!

HI there. Thanks for these videos. Since filling out CSS profile and FAFSA, an investment has tanked significantly. Also, I overestimated the value of a retirement account also somewhat significantly. Can I change this in both css and fafsa or how would you suggest I handle that? Thanks in advance.
@CollegeCoach
@CollegeCoach 10 ай бұрын
You can "correct" a FAFSA if you made a mistake, but you can't "update" it based on a change of circumstances. We'd recommend sending an email to the financial aid office(s), explaining the circumstances and asking that they take them into consideration.

Community College then transfering to the best University for your major is the obvious best path for most. Leave this ridiculous rat race for Ivy Admissions to the prep school families who have been paying $50k.a year since elementary school. In a way they have prepaid for their children's inflated HS grades.

I’m prt of the category of students that applied to public state schools (EA) and already got admission. However, I got my acceptances before they got to see my semester 1 grades and obviously my semester 2 grades. I’ve had a cumulative unweighted 3.7 gpa over grades 9-11, but my semester 1 gpa this year is 3.2. I haven’t completely tanked it, but I did go from averaging an A- to a B/B-. Is it possible that my acceptances get revoked? Thank you for the video, it was very informative.

Hey! I realized that my parents submitted that they own a business when in reality my dad is an employee. He doesn’t know English. However, I only realized now but I submitted it for 2023-2024 in January of 2023 and my financial aid package for my university is way higher than we can pay, higher than his yearly income. Is there any way that I can fix this issue now as I am started my spring semester of my freshman year?

If asking for more merit scholarships, admissions. If asking for more need-based aid, financial aid. If you're not sure or both might be in play, it doesn't hurt to include both offices on your email.
