The cruise was November/December1989. RCL where offering an included flights from the UK a night in a hotel in Miami, transfers and day room before the flight home it was a great deal.

The last time I was on a P&O ship was in 1961 when my family emigrated to Western Australia! They've certainly changed a lot. The Saga ship looked nice. Sadly, they don't come here.

Our first cruise was in 1980 on the original 1960 Oriana which sailed out of Australia between 1981 and 1986. From then on we were hooked on cruising.

Madeira and Tenerife in the Canary Islands are in the Atlantic off West Africa. So getting there can be a bit choppy on a winter cruise.

The Albatross was a sister ship to the Fair Princess of P&O Australia, which cruised out of Australia from around 1997-2001. They were classic cruise ships built in the 1950s for the Cunard Line.

It was an amazing ride to the top. One time we where in Madeira we went back down to the town on a 2km ride on the "Carros de cestos" wicker toboggans down steep and winding roads shared with cars and pedestrians!! "Celebrity Century Cruise 1999 Part 5 Funchal Madeira"

It was an amazing day at sea, spectacular close up views. The Capitan sailed really close to the cliffs and even went into a bay and circled around to give us special views and memories. I just wish I was there this afternoon.

La Palma is an interesting port to visit, with historic parts. It was easy to just get off the ship and walk around. We did not find out why or what the scarecrow festival was for, but it was a unique experience. .

Ciutadella is a very nice port to visit, picturesque and historic. We have many cruise memories from our first cruise in 1980, and our first cruise we videoed in 1989. So many ships we cruised on are now scrapped and so many places now you are unable to travel to. That's why I wanted to share these videos of cruises on ships that have now gone.

These couple of days in Venice were enjoyable, but I remember it being freezing cold. The first day, we did an organised walking tour but the following day, we walked around on our own, which was better. I still can't get over the crowds compared to when we were there in the 70s. I wouldn't like to be there in the high season. Thanks for a great video.

Venice is really busy even out of season. Venice is another port you cannot dock in to visit now. Big ships now dock in Trieste or Ravenna and smaller ships in Fusina, and you can not sail past St Mark's square anymore.

Victoria (Sea Princess) was one of our favourite early ships. We enjoyed five cruises on her. She was a step up from Canberra and felt quite luxurious and just the right size. It was very sad to see her go.

I love Venice but when we were there in October 2017, I couldn't get over the crowds compared to when we were there in the 1970s. We had to miss out on Split and go straight to Venice from Dubrovnik because of the approaching fog. It was so cold! Watching this brought it all back to me.

It's held every day from April 23 to August 31 and 3 times a week the rest of the year. It's an amazing thing to watch, the video is a a bit long but did not want to cut things out as it so historic.

Seabourn Sojourn is a lovely ship. Portoferraio is picturesque. We were going to visit Napoleon's house and museum, but it was up a very steep hill and it was very hot, and the ships pool was calling us back.
