I bet Jim’s parents are decent hardworking people who are suspicious of and dismayed by their sons poor character hence why they are unwilling to help him buy a car.

What's interesting about this scene is Peg specifically asks Jim about his MOM redoing the kitchen - he is so bitter and jealous about his dad getting himself stuff that he totally ignores the mom question just so he can whine about his father. Also, look at the order Edward serves, the child first, then the women starting with the mother that her loves. So wholseome.

But what she said is not without merit, considering he uses his hands for everything such as trimming hedges and cutting hair - humans and dogs.
