The 15 needs another lane from state line all the way to Hesperia and all these problems largely go away.

If it’s fucked up in and around or past Barstow, which is very often is, you can cut down through 29 Palms and into Yucca Valley to connect with the 10.

I leave Vegas no later than 8:30 and I’m back in Santa Ana in my driveway before 11:30. That’s straight down the 15.

Vegas isn't the fkkn same anymore anyways.... But if you do VEGAS, ...DO Sunday-Thursday and do downtown Vegas or the station casinos, pre party in your room, bring your own cooler full of beer, food, and research the best lowest price food joints.... Otherwise, you're going to lose $$$.

Another nice route is 95 down to I-10 then through Palm Springs to LA or over the hill to San Diego.

One Sunday returning from Vegas, there was a fatal car crash on the 15 S/B in Apple Valley. We left Vegas at 8:30am we took a road called National Trails from Barstow and we just got ahead of the accident. Made home by 3:30 pm So.San Gabriel.

Or you can just fly to vegas and get there in 37 mins.

Huh, this didn’t hit me until stared at the map ( 1:17 ). I’ve been on this road a few times but never towards Vegas. Yes, this is perfectly viable. The only problem might be the lack of traffic. Being stranded there might be scary.

I think it might be shorter and quicker to just exit in Jean, take Goodsprings Rd through Goodsprings, through Sandy Valley and then Kingston Rd lets out right on the other side of Mountain Pass.

Another option,leave Vegas towards Henderson, continue to Hoover Dam then 95 south towards Kingman,take i40 west across river through Needles then straight to Barstow where you meet 58 west or the 10 south. Been a while but seems its still quite a drive from Baker to Barstow. Just a thought.

I never did this route as a road warrior (insurance inspector) working for Southern California insurance companies for 24 years but paying attention to his advice if you do is absolutely mandatory. I took Highway 62 out of Needles to 29 Palms and FOLKS it is damn desolete out there - seeing a car like once every 20 minutes. Now that is scary - when cars wave at each other because so few travel that route.

I miss the eighties when that was all undriven 2 lane road.

I came home from Vegas, Thanksgiving 97' on my motorcycle. It was bumper to bumper all the way to Victorville... And I passed everyone on the Hwy. Still took me 6 &1/2 hrs to get to Granada Hills

Nice route. The other back way is though Henderson and route 95 south all the way to Blythe 10fwy into Palm Springs your welcome. His route go's though Death Valley 120+ temps. Safe travels

I’ve taken the 15 more times than I could count and never knew about this route, I live in so cal and back in the nineties I made that drive every weekend working on the construction of the Treasure Island and then the Orleans as an electrician but I didn’t have to worry much about traffic since I was always going the opposite direction as everyone else. But it could come in handy these days on just weekend getaway to Vegas.

This should be easy. LONG before they paved the I-10, there was an old highway. Find it & drive it. !

I’ve seen people stuck on the side of the road in the Mohave desert. No thank you.

I remember in the 50s the speed limit was r easonable and proper when I was stationed at Nellis for 4 years.

I go to Searchlight, then to Baker. Rather than Baker you can stay on that road and go to the 40, then to Barstow.

First, you're only HALF correct. By noon, Baker to Barstow is equally miserable. Many days it isn't even clear to San Bernardino. I leave super early, planning on getting brunch in Tehachapi (I live in Livermore). Of course, I then have to contend with the misery of I-5 and 580.... All that and I only go to Las Vegas/Henderson for business.

What makes the ride from Vegas so bad is at the stateline the highway goes from 3 lanes to 2 in California and you have the agriculture check point.

Takes about an hour longer according to Mapquest. But that’s not taking in to account the traffic on I15 leaving Las Vegas. From my location in California.

Actually, it’s the merging of 3 lanes down to 2 lanes. The accidents that inevitably happen because of this process.

Go south on 95 to needles to interstate 40.

That is from Pahrump to Baker, I have tried the other way going Reno, Thats a long way, I will tried that if there is a major accident in highway 15 going to Baker.
