The film is not threaded correctly. If you want to bypass the sound heads, take the film to the left of the roller behind the heads. You can even go from the second sprocket to the third over the spring-loaded roller. When playing sound films you should put tension on the film between the second and the third sprocket with the spring roller in between. Colin Walkington is not a projectionist but a beginner. The stroboscope, by the way, isn’t so superb engineering, it has wrong numbers of holes in the disc. By that the 18 speed is 18.181818 fps. Simon Wyss, Film-Mechanik, Basel, Switzerland

Hi, I'm a video producer at Wales Online, I was wondering if perhaps we could use this video for an article on our website. Thanks Nicholas

+Nicholas Williams . Yes you can. Please acknowledge and let me know if you need any further info. We sadly never traced the family featured in the film!

I'm sure I've seen this before, I'm an old and now ex penarthian. Have you tried posting it on the images of bygone Penarth fb page ?

Fond memories, 65 years ago myself and school mates from Monkton House would take the 3 penny train from Cardiff to spend the day at Barry Island.

I own a GEM Pathescope projector which was given to me many years ago...It is boxed and has all parts plus two reels of unknown footage.. I would like to sell it now as space is tight on my boat... any idea of its value..I want it to go to someone who appreciates such things (UK)

I'm curious as to what was happening with the Gem, it looks like the loop was so saggy it was dragging the film against the chassis which can't be good!

There are only four Dicks listed in the local phone book, so it is not a common name here, unlike Jones, Thomas, Roberts etc!

Thanks so much! The movie was great and who know's they may be long lost relatives. My Family did Immigrate from that area in the 1880's.

Is there no way to check the registration of the car through the tag number on the front of it? Maybe get a name at least, to look for.

Thanks for your comments. Sad to say this is an 'orphan' film, having been bought at an auction. Pity that the descendants of the family featured are unable to share these happy memories of 63 years ago. Let's hope that one day they may identify and rediscover these delightful images.

Well done lads. as a film an cinema historian I welcome all good news on the preservation of this fast becoming bygone age that shaped our recent history, especially projectors and films from 1896 to the real birth of cinemas as we know them in 1910, I myself have several items from this period along with films, Sam Lavington
