Is it a bad idea to overseed in the spring? I’m in NJ … I filled in some patches last spring and they turned into dust by the time hot summer rolled around. We had a drought this year in the fall which killed my fall overseeding plans 😢
@TheRealLawnFather7 күн бұрын
@@juanez8 it’s not a “bad” idea, it just not optimal. Seeding in the spring means no early pre emergent so you can get weeds and you have to seed it early so it has time to grow enough roots to survive summer heat.

I buy, repair and sell snowblowers, so I have three of them I use. When there is only a couple inches and it's light fluffy snow, I just use my leaf blower. It's faster and easier to deal with. If there is 4 to 6" of snow, I fire up my 24" dual stage unit, which I have the skids and scraper blade setup for sidewalks and garage apron (concrete) so it scrapes it off clean. My larger 28" unit is for my gravel driveway (about 900 ft.) and those skid shoes are setup about 3/4" high so I don't throw rocks. I had considered getting a single stage unit but I have never really found one that impressed me and most look cheaply made anyway.

If the lawn is mostly green when it's long, but shows yellowing areas after cutting. And if you dig deep with your fingers and see yellow blades down deep. But the moisture meter says good, what might the problem be. Should mention the lawn was immaculate, nice deep green and thick. Then we got 2 months of hot dry weather and a few days of heavy downpours followed by 90+ again. Started seeing signs of deep yellowing where the low spots are. Should also mention this lawn is only 3 years old over drainage stone with once was 4" to 6" of good top soil. Lawn has always looked thick and dark green. Lots of lime and ironite 2 times or more a season with the regular Scotts maintenance fertilizer and grub killer. I was told 2 weeks ago to stop watering and let lawn grow long. Said it's been too hot and then heavy rains. But it's showing signs of more yellowing. I did a test section of dethatching at highest position and it thin it out and shows more of the deep yellowing below blades just above soil. Not sure if I should go all out and scarify and air rate or not. Any suggestions?

I have a towable tine rake that works very well. I love it. I can tow it behind my mower. If you put some weight on the tine rake it detaches more aggressively. Also if the ground has been softened by recent rain, it will put parallel grooves in the ground that the seeds will fall into and keep the seed from blowing or washing away.

So, I bought two of these last year, one leaked on arrival but they weee very responsive and sent out a new one immediately. For the winter I stored them indoors in winter mode as recommended. When I started it up this season one of them is leaking quite a bit and it has now corroded the plug and I will have to wire it direct to charge it which is necessary if you water every day. It has now been a week and a half with no more response from customer service. Just thought I would throw this out there as a warning, it is a shame since it is really convenient but I’m starting to just weigh the cost to trenching in a smart head like irrigreen not sure which brand I will go with yet. If they become more responsive I will update.

I really didn’t want to get another piece of lawn equipment, and this one is a bit pricey. When I apply RGS and humic with a hose-end sprayer on 8k sq ft, it’s dragging hose through a fence and at least one hose change for the side of the property. Then I saw your video, and I changed my mind. Not sure if i should thank you or curse you 😉 Just ordered the Chapin from Lowe’s and got the regulator, gauge, and bulkhead through Amazon. I anppreciate the clear explanation of how you modded yours and thanks a ton for the parts list. I’m also going to skip the pump upgrade until I use it a few times to help decide on sizing and whether the battery also needs an upgrade.
